Departing...arriving part 20

Best wishes to Jessica Serfaty (Sloan). Her character was detestable, but she did a fine job portraying a character everyone loved to hate, one who committed the unpardonable sin of adding to the long suffering Nicole’s misery. (In contrast people don’t love to hate Konstantin. They simply detest him and want his vile self gone ASAP.)

Days of Our Lives:

Cherie Jimenez (Gabi) makes her long awaited debut later this month
Jessica Serfaty is reportedly done as Sloan

NOTE: The show has confirmed that Casey Moss will be back on screen as JJ Deveraux at least for Doug’s funeral later this year.

I heard back in January that Matthew Ashford and Cady McClain (Jack and Jennifer) were back on set. Also that Judith Chapman was filming as Diana Colville again in late November so she should be imminent, and given that Leo is talking about her a lot that was kind of being projected. I do hope they both make Diana into less of a travesty of a human being this time around, and just make Leo John's kid, as that always made sense given how Diana left town and Leo's age.

Serena Scott Thomas started in December as Xander's unnamed mum so she is going to appear any moment too. I think I heard she has a one off appearance (probably when Sarah phones her) and then starts full time a few weeks later.

I thought I read that Melissa Reeves (original recipe adult Jennifer Rose) would be back for Doug's funeral. Maybe she wasn't available for the resurrection of her TV daughter, and Cady McClain (New Coke Jennifer) was the one who fell off the wagon when her daughter passed, allowing for Jack's one night stand daughter to blackmail them for ownership of the paper.

Missy Reeves version of Jennifer is back for Doug's funeral, as that actress had a relationship with Bill Hayes (Doug) and wanted to be there. Cady McClain's version is there for the presumed Abby resurrection.

Am so glad so many of originals wanted to come back for Bill Hayes .......he played Doug for so long, and was such a great person, and they want to honor him. I think Doug's funeral/memorial is to be in Dec. Maybe a few will arrive earlier, for Thanksgiving.

For years, I've referred to Wayne Northrop as "original recipe Roman" as a joke.

robinsnest referred to Cady McClain (the actress they got to replace Melissa Reeves as Jennifer) as "New Coke Jennifer", which I thought was funny.

It's a shame when products that stayed the same for years, gaining [popularity because of their taste, decide to change the recipe that made them special. Does nothing but cause many users to go looking elsewhere.

Thank you Just Sam, I still don't get it.

I thought I missed something on Days like Jennifer did cocaine!
It's just a silly way of referring to Cady McClain as the "new Jennifer".

Back in 1985, Coca Cola decided to change their original formula and created New Coke. It did not go over well. People didn't like the new formula, which led to Coke going back to the original formula. Many people use "New Coke" as way to refer to something that was supposed to replace an original, but wasn't overly successful. Or something that's inferior to an original product.

While Cady McClain does a nice job of playing Jennifer, to many, she'll never be the "real" Jennifer as played by Melissa Reeves. It's hard to recast a role played by someone else for decades. Sometimes it's necessary, but still hard to accept for many people.

Speaking of Coke/New Coke. It's my opinion that the whole thing wasn't about New Coke, but about switching out high fructose corn syrup for the real sugar that original coke had. So technically they never went back to the original recipe, but wanted you to think they did. If you're ever able to get your hands on Mexican coke, which has real sugar still, you'll really taste the difference.

As for Cady McClain, though it took me awhile, I came to really like her as Jennifer.
