SPOILER !! Week Nov 25

This with Doug is going to rip my heart out. I can remember when Doug and Julie met and the procession of their love story. I cried so hard when I heard about Bill Hayes' (Doug) death as he had been a part of my life for so long. My mom watched the show from the very beginning until her death and I can remember being small watching with her. Over the years we watched together and it was "our show". I no longer watch as much as I used to as the writing is so bad but I will this week and know my heart will break for all the memories I have.

I'm glad Doug's on-screen death is finally happening. It's super uncomfortable to watch Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie) talk about her husband as if he's still alive. I feel terrible each time. And soon, though they're not married in real life, the same thing will start to happen with Deidre Hall (Marlena) referring to Drake Hogestyn (John). It's months and months of awkwardness.

Where did Jennifer get that "lovely" blouse/dress? I guess at least it has sleeves and it's November, so okay. Not my style.
Jennifer used to dress stylishly in the 90’s and 2000’s. Wardrobe has been unkind to her in the last appearances she has made on the show. Or perhaps it is the style of 2024 that doesn’t appeal to me. The actress is a beautiful woman. I don’t understand why they would put that hideous blouse/dress on her that is in that photo for this week.

I always wonder how much say-so individual actors have on their attire, (or lack thereof for certain males). It does seem that Deidre Hall (Marlena) or Lauren Koslow (Kate Roberts) don't have much of a problem in that regard.......which could be because Marlena has been there so long, and Kate's (meaning Lauren Koslow) husband is part of wardrobe staff. And I get curious as to why those in their 60s or 70s, keep trying to dress like in 20s or 30s. No, not all, but ........well, when you are growing up you hear "act your age" lol, but then one gets "up there" and no one ever says it........and in some cases, tis a shame they don't!

Perhaps Days needs to look closer at the kind of clothes their primary actors prefer to wear,

however, I seem to be in a minority on a lot of issues, since I seem to be "wrong" on various things, so will be taking a break from commenting for a while.

Days (and many shows, to be fair) doesn't seem to really think about how everyday people dress, and this goes beyond the lack of seasonal dress for mid-autumn/winter/early spring in a four-season continental climate. Yes, people dress up for work, social outings, holidays, etc. But why is everyone still all dressed up when they're back home from these events, or spending a weekend in? If someone is going for a casual lunch at the pub, or walking around the Square, really no reason to be all dressed to the nines.

Two reasons: The change to color TV broadcasting and Dynasty. People want to see things that are interesting on TV. Bright colors, interesting cuts, etc. Importantly, wardrobe should say something about the character.

I agree that the wardrobe department is frequently out of step with the season, and I'm not necessarily advocating for non-stop glam, but would people really watch a show where everyone was dressed like they were shopping at the grocery store on a Tuesday night after picking up the kids from soccer practice? And I'll concede that the show seems to be tossing clothes at the actors without regard to anything character- or story-wise. It seems their budget there is limited.

There were plenty of shows in the past where the characters dressed like ordinary folks usually do. Archie Bunker & that crew come to mind. Laverne & Shirley. Happy Days. Andy Griffith. Guiding Light. The A-Team, The Waltons. ...don't know why it seems characters seem to have to constantly be in suits and ties, dresses and heels. Maybe that is the normal wear in the L.A. area, where most shows are filmed. No idea. Or perhaps it is the normal office attire in the big cities. But it does seem that when people are NOT in their offices, they get into more comfortable clothing. I cannot picture anyone mowing the lawn, tending a garden giving the baby a bath, cooking dinner, tending the grill, washing dishes, etc. etc. in the suit & tie, spike heels, etc.
