I voted for Percy as a final act of revenge against EJ for sending him back to Devon. I'm not sure Stefano would share this level of info with Kate just yet.

Sami has been carrying the maroon briefcase around Salem for weeks, even when she was clearly not going to work. She always seemed to have a meeting to run off to.

Exactly. If he believed her and EJ were madly in love, he would want her to suffer knowing her fiance cheated on her with a younger woman. And it would ruin any chance of them being together, thus, making EJ suffer as well. It makes sense.
 
Speculation: Maybe Nick sent them to Chad (because Gabi once cared for him) at the same time he sent them to EJ. Chad gave them to Kate when she was in Chicago (last wee??) and Kate gave them to Sami at Ari's birthday party (in the hallway).

Kate went to Chicago AFTER Ari's birthday party. She was just getting back from Chicago when Gabi confessed to killing Nick.

Sidenote: Everything happens when Salemites are in Chicago LOL. Sami was arrested again for killing Bernardi when Lucas was in Chicago. EJ slept with Abby while Sami was in Chicago. Gabi confessed to killing Nick while Kate was in Chicago. Here's an idea: Stay out of Chicago LOL.
 
I think Kate and Sami formed a friendship. Sami formed a plan and her new and only friend with the same problem as her was Kate. Kate had Stefano who was a dog like EJ to Sami. I think the girls are going for the take down of Stefano and EJ and leave with the Company that Kate use to have and Sami ran. They will leave the men and Sami will leave town with her kids, not marry EJ of course (where all is revealed and the take over of the company by Kate and Sami and Stefano left in the dirt.) her cousin will be exposed, along with how long she has know about the affair to put it all together for her escape plan away from EJ and his cheating, lies. While helping her friend Kate do the same from Stefano and getting the company too! All Sami had to do was pay her niece too much money for the backpack find. After that she put in all in motion.

Are you talking about Abby? If so, Abby isn't Sami's cousin.

Sami's cousins are Andrew, Jeannie Theresa, Stephanie, Joey, Shawn-D, Ciara and Chelsea.
 
Yes, Hortons and Bradys are only related via marriage.

Will and Allie are half-Brady and half-Horton.

Hope is Brady through marriage.

Abby and Sami are not related, although Sami's children (Will and Allie) are Abby's cousins.

The closest Sami and Abby came to being related is when Sami was married to Lucas, then Abby was Sami's niece.
