Off topic, a little bit more Spanish knowledge is that many times, they add "ito" (for a boy) and "ita" (for a girl) to the end of children's names as a sign of affection. For instance, Gabi's relatives could've called her Gabriellita as a little girl, or Rafe could've been called Rafito or Rafaelito. I learned that from good friends who moved here from Spain many years ago. All of the little ones end up with "ito" and "ita" at the ends of the their names.

Otherwise, Javi's last name wouldn't be Hernandez. Not that such a scenario would be all that unusual but it just seems a little forced. And didn't Gabi say they'd lost touch with "that side" of the family?

Couldn't she have been their mother's sister? She would have had a different last name.
