Now appearing in Wichita, Kansas
34 minutes, with lots of wonderful flashbacks.

Show opens with a young Doug in jail, ashtray on his chest, smoking. Doug says two weeks, six days, four hours and a few minutes and the look out world, or should I say Salem, because he I come.

Marlena dressed in black, is reading Doug’s obituary on her tablet. Knock at the door, it's Liz Chandler. A warm welcome and hugs.

Jennifer fondling all the pictures on the mantel. First the single shot of Doug.

Horton Town Square, a redheaded woman fondly touches the plaque for the Horton Town Square. Maggie walks by, Marie Horton as I live and breathe. Marie and Maggie hug.

Jennifer has moved on to a picture of the original Hortons. Mickey, Marie, Bill, Tom and Alice, no Tom Jr. in this picture. Lucas has come in unseen and mentions to Jennifer it’s a good-looking family. Jennifer goes to Lucas and welcomes her little brother. Lucas had to be here for Julie. He asks after Julie.

Jennifer tells of sharing the same bed with someone for so many years how can she feel waking without him?

Julie's in bed sleeping, reaches over to where Doug would have been. A flashback of VERY young Julie and Doug. Julie then looks at a picture of her and Doug and snuggles into his pillow.

Back in a prison, a young man is reading the Ballad of Davey Crockett, it has Doug’s picture on it.

Lucas and Jennifer talk about how they love the house. How Doug would give you a big huge hug every time you’d see him. Lucas thought he was the black sheep of the family. Doug always went out of the way to make him feel part of the family.

Shawn and Ciara come into the room; they want to be part of the family love.

Julie is dressed as she comes out of the bathroom and spies Doug’s wedding ring. She picks it up and tries it on. Flashback of a wedding to Doug. Julie sees someone outside her window. It's Steven (her brother). He says hey sis, long time no see.

Marlena asks Liz how long has it's been? Liz replies, I left Salem in 1986 they both say it’s been a LONG time. Marlena is pleased she came back for Doug’s service. Liz asks after Julie. They sit and drink tea, Liz invites Marlena and John to spend time with her in Los Angeles. Marlena asks after Noel. She’s fine, has a good job and has serious boyfriend, and Liz has two sons, all grown up.

Marlena would love to meet the boys sometime. They have to find a way to get all the families together. Liz is sorry they’ve lost touch. They got close when Stefano kidnapped them. Marlena agrees that was a bonding experience. Marlena adds sadly for her it became a recurring experience. Liz tells Marlena she misses everyone is Salem, well, except for that wretched Marie Horton. Marlena just smiles.

Maggie and Marie still at the town square continue to talk. Marie tells Maggie she is sorry to hear of her husband’s passing. Maggie thanks her for the lovely flowers. Marie says you know Salem has lost a lot of extraordinary men of late. First Victor and now Doug. That wonderful man who lifted everyone’s spirits. Marie still can’t believe that Mickey is gone, as is Tommy, Addie, Bill, and her parents. There’s not a day that goes by that Marie doesn’t think of each and every one of them. Maggie tells of the legacy Alice and Tom left.

Jennifer hugs Ciara and Shawn, then asks after Hope. When will she be coming? Shawn tells Jennifer that well, Hope, won’t be coming. After Jennifer called and told Hope the news of her dad’s passing, Hope went to the hospital to be with his dad. Hope told Bo of Doug’s passing and well, he squeezed her hand. So, Bo’s waking up? The doctors don’t know. Jennifer and Lucas are happy that Bo’s waking up and understand why Hope won’t leave Bo’s side now. They assure Shawn and Ciara that Julie will understand too.

Julie helps Steven crawl through the window, repeating his name over and over. Julie tells Steven she’s thrilled to see him but why is he crawling through her bedroom window? Steven tells Jules that this was his means of entry into Grandma and Grandpa’s house when we were kids. Now, Julie remembers, Grandma was certain he’d fall to his death. Julie demands a hug, Steven obliges with a warm hug.

Shawn's looking at a picture while Jennifer is looking at pictures on Ciara’s phone of Baby Bo, he is a little man, and precious Addie, look at her. Addie just turned 1, she is named after her grandma. Shawn asks about the time capsule? It’s still not open. Jennifer had it in Boston with her, then brought it back to Salem. Ciara offers to try to open it.

Steven and Julie talk about keeping in touch, texts twice a year is not keeping in touch. Steven says when he heard about Doug, he knew he had to be there. Steven talks of fellow con man with a heart of gold. Flashback to Doug talking with Steven telling him that Doug would make sure Harold Trask will get his cashier’s check back while Steven will come up with a story on why Steven dissolves the silent partnership. Steven wants to give the check back himself; Doug tells him we will do it my way. Doug allows this break for Julie and the family. Julie hopes Steven isn’t in town because he’s on the run from the police. Steven says no. Julie tells Steven about her grandson, her grandson who works for the FBI. Steven takes in that news.

Lani is reading Doug’s obituary. She wasn’t aware that Doug’s real name was Brent Douglas. Lani asks why he changed it? Eli believes he wanted a fresh start. Lani can’t imagine Doug in prison, but then again, people can’t imagine me in prison. Doug was in for securities fraud; his cell mate was Julie’s Uncle Bill.

Black and white filming of young man who was reading the Ballad of Davy Crockett. The book was not bad, it was about the king of the wild frontier. He offers the book to his cell mate Bill.

At the outside service, Abe, Roman, Jack, Paulina, Steve and Kayla are talking. Johnny and Chanel offered to watch the kids so the others could attend the service for Doug. Paulina talks about how Doug touched so many lives? Steve thinks a few blasts from the past will come back for Doug’s service.

Maggie and Marie continue their conversation. Marie has many fond memories of growing up in Salem only a few regrets, mainly of her poor choice in men. Maggie asks about which ones? Marie mentions Alex Marshall, Neil Curtis, although I am grateful to Alex. Because of her beautiful daughter Jessica. The only thing Marie got from marrying Neil was Liz Chandler despising her. Marie apologizes because Neil and Maggie were once an item and Neil is Sarah’s father.

Cut to the townhouse, Liz is ranting about Marie and Marie’s marriage to Neil, which was a dumpster fire. Marlena tells Liz it was a long time ago. Liz agrees and today is about Doug. He was so kind and he gave me my big break singing at his casino. Flashback to Liz and Doug, and Doug offering her a job singing at his club.

Lani is taking in that Julie was married to an ex-con who was once married to her mother. Why did I not know any of this she asks Eli. Eli tells her that he didn’t say anything because he didn’t know if Julie wanted me sharing personal information. (Sorry, Eli, that is a stupid reason) Lani buys it. The information is in the obituary so it’s out there now. Lani thought her family history was wild. Eli talks of Steven.

Steven is shocked to hear that Eli Grant is with the FBI. He can’t wait to meet them. Steven sold drugs and stole jewels. Julie remembers wanting to be in business with Steven, the antiques business. Flashback to Julie and Steven talking about him joining the business. Discussion of his inheritance. Julie reminds Steven how he sold fakes to her customers. Steven tries to convince his sister he isn’t the same man, he’s been transformed.

At the church, Kayla remembers Doug looking evil straight in the eye, and faced it. Replay of Thanksgiving with the Devil. Doug rising up and calling Mar-Devil the Devil. Talking about how brave and strong the both of them were fighting for right.

Marlena's alone at the townhouse. Talking about having a true friend. Flashback to Marlena getting married. Doug offers to make coffee.

Belle made it early, from Hong Kong, John has been called away. Marlena talks of Liz Chandler being at the townhouse. Belle talks about how Shawn made her a love CD when they were dating and Liz’s Friends and Lovers was on it. Belle loved that song. Marlena asks about Shawn. Belle doesn’t know she’s been doing consulting work for DiMera in Hong Kong. Shawn doesn’t know Belle is in town. She is giving Shawn space.

With the time capsule in his hands, Shawn offers to hand it over to Ciara. Lucas tells her to not get her hopes up, he’s been trying since February to open it. Ciara reminds Lucas he’s not her, she grabs the box to give it a try. Jennifer says this is why we need Hope, she was great at puzzles. Lucas didn’t want to smash it open to dishonor Grandma Alice. Ciara flips it open, it was a piece of cake. She's very proud of herself.

Maggie and Marie talk of Neil. Marie knows she should be letting go of old resentments. She counts herself lucky if she never lays eyes on Liz Chandler ever again. Liz walks up and tells her well today is not your lucky day.

Steven is trying to convince Jules he’s been transformed. About six months ago he visited an ashram he met a guru who changed his life. Rishi helped set Steven on the correct path. Julie is somewhat shocked.

Back to black and white, the young man leaves prison.

Sorry this took so long, I wanted to make sure I captured it for those who are not able to watch any longer. I'm sure twitter will have the flashbacks.

The black and white portions, young Doug in jail? Or someone else? Spoiler pictures made this more difficult that it should have been.

Yes, the black and white clip of the guy in jail is Doug (in the beginning). I just watched and the other black and white clips are of an unknown character (go to the Crystal Ball if you want to know who the other young man in jail is - the thread is Mystery character's identity revealed). Funny that he was reading the story of Davy Crockett. Bill Hayes (Doug) had a hit song, The Ballad of Davy Crockett, in 1956. Here's the book the young man is reading, and the actual picture the prop department used of Bill Hayes dressed as Davy Crockett from back in the day.

Thank you, Robin! You got a nostalgic show to recap.

Jules is the name of Eli and Lani's daughter. Spelled the same, I believe.

I thought that Marie, Liz and Steven looked wonderful.

I get why Hope didn't want to leave Bo's side after a possible breakthrough. More than just a reflex is what we want.

So how the heck did Ciara open that time capsule?

Nice to see Lucas.

Maybe Liz and Marie will put the past aside and try to get along. Their feud is ancient history. Move on!

Yes, her full name is Julia (Julia Harriet) and they call her Jules. When she was born, Eli and Lani said they'd call her Jules because there is only one Julie in Salem.

Julie said that Julia was her given name, something we had never heard until that episode. I was surprised when Julie told Steven about Eli having two children, that she didn't note the girl twin was named after her.

Thought the “new” flashbacks were odd as well. The Doug stand-in should have had a less current hairstyle considering we saw the same “scene” earlier in the episode with Bill Hayes playing Doug sitting on the bed in his cell.

Lots of names from the past brought up today. Glad they didn’t gloss over Neil Curtis being Sarah’s biological father.

Trying to think of what other Hortons should be showing up. We haven’t heard a mention of Mike or Jeremy. Melissa and son Dr. Nathan (who was given Tom’s medical bag when he left Salem), Will and Allie, Marie’s daughter Jessica (Nick’s mother - I don’t remember ever seeing her actually), Claire should probably be there with Shawn too. I’m sure they couldn’t include everyone but this would fill out the family of people we’ve at least heard from/about or seen in the last 10-15 years.

You should hit the Crystal Ball to see who the other young guy in jail is (it's under: Mystery character's identity revealed). He's not a Doug stand-in. I think they were just trying to be artsy about how they incorporated his introduction into Salem (with the black and white scenes and the parallel story to Doug's).
