JasonDiSpeech was joking when he said that, because it would be funny and kind of ironic for Bonnie to be targeted by her own stepson.

But yes, it was mostly a joke about how the show forgets entire branches exist in favor of a few characters (cough cough Alex) and silly plots.

The writers must love these long ago, forgotten members of family trees. They are a blank slate, meaning that as da plot requires, they can be professional criminals, insatiable bedroom artistes, scientific geniuses, super surgeons, or secular saints.
