Ron Carlivati (head writer) leaving

Oh, wow...........and would you not have loved to have been a spider in a corner and have heard whatever went on behind the scenes? I doubt this was as sudden as it sounds, had to be conversations/discussions for a bit. And yep, bad enough they film 5-6 mos. in advance, as that means the writing is even in advance of that. But there is time for PERHAPS some changes or adjustments to storylines.......Just have to wait and see ...............

I hope this is good news and that what replaces him delivers more cohesion, fewer tricks and gimmicks, and maybe storytelling that makes the most of streaming (fewer flashbacks, faster pacing).

Things I’ve read make it sound like Peacock is happy with Days as a property to drive daily viewing. So I’m guessing it’s not a signal that the show is ending or in danger. I hope they can move to filming not so far ahead. That lets them be more responsive and write fewer bad stories that last for months and then are dead ends.

Like they say in corporate America, I wish Ron the best in his next endeavors, which is code for don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you.

Meet the new head writing duo of Days of Our Lives, Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford.

Paula Cwikly was a production coordinator at NBC in the late 1980's, and later was a writer/producer at CBS from 1989-1991, responsible for on-air promotions of "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful". By 1998, she was NBC's director of daytime programming. Her first writing stint was at "Sunset Beach" in 1999. She started her "Days" career as a breakdown writer from January 2000-March 2002, when she was named head writer of "Days" on March 29, 2002.

She spent a year as head writer, with her last episode airing March 6, 2003. Cwikly then returned to her role as breakdown writer from March 2003-September 2003. She wrote for "As the World Turns" from 2004-2005 and "The Young and the Restless" from 2006-2013. Cwikly has been nominated for 7 Daytime Emmy Awards, winning twice (2005, 2011), Paula Frances Cwikly was born on April 29, 1961 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.

Jeanne Marie Ford credits her love of daytime dramas to her grandmother. "My grandmother lived with me growing up and she was a big fan of 'General Hospital' and all the ABC shows...She kind of got me hooked on soaps. Then when I was in high school, my best friend got me hooked on 'Days.' (via https://www.heraldmailmedia.com/.../so-are-the.../117186840/) She first worked on the "Days" staff in 1992 as an unpaid intern and soon after became the show's writer's assistant from 1992-1996.

She moved back to Marlyand from 1996-1999, and then re-joined "Days" as its continuity coordinator in March 1999 and became a full time staff writer (switching between breakdown writer, script editor and script writer) beginning in 2000, leaving in May 2007. While away from "Days", Ford wrote for "As the World Turns" and "One Life to Live."

She returned to the show as a breakdown writer in October 2008, and, since then, has worked as both that and a dialogue writer. She has been nominated 11 times for Daytime Emmy Awards, winning 3 times (2012, 2018, 2022). Jeanne Marie Grunwell was born on April 26, 1971 in California. She is married to James Ford and now uses her married name professionally. Ford, who is based in Maryland, also works as a college English professor there.

audience reaction means nothing because it's too late to course correct
Even worse, they DO react - but then it makes little sense and meanwhile a whole new story has brewed only to be broken to react to what fans were seeing 8-9 months ago.

I just hope it was either a snap decision by Ron or Ken and not something that came out of months of misery - because if the writer was unhappy/about to get axed, his writing will be even worse than usual.

This is such good news! It's a shame we're stuck with his crap through April. I hope Poirot is right and that some things are scrapped or shifted around. And I really hope this means Nicole can return to Salem.

I don't wanna get my hopes up too much, but I think the two new writers sound promising.

Early 2003: Nicole and Victor getting married, Rex and Cassie in Salem, Kate and Roman confessing their feelings, Lexie drama with Brandon, Victor trying to keep Brady away from Chloe, Bo quits the force to fight crime his own way, Belle wins a love is blind contest and a date with Philip, Lucas and Sami relationship drama, he falls off the wagon.

All according to Soap Central.

Days of our Lives made a big backstage switch today, announcing Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford as head writers, effective immediately. In an exclusive statement to TV Insider, the show’s previous head writer, Ron Carlivati, addresses his exit from the soap.

“It has honestly been one of the great joys of my life to be the Head Writer of Days of Our Lives for the past seven-and-a-half years,” Carlivati says. “I want to thank [Executive Producer] Ken Corday, [Co-Executive Producer] Janet Drucker and the entire cast and crew at Days for an amazing run. Thanks also to [Peacock executives] Michael Sluchan, Cherise Masukawa and everyone at Peacock for their unfailing support. To the fans, thank you for your passion.”

Carlivati joined Days in 2017, but his association with soaps spans decades. As a boy, he became hooked on General Hospital during the Luke and Laura era, eventually adding other daytime dramas to his viewing lineup. After graduating from College of the Holy Cross, Carlivati attended law school at George Washington University and then went to work in Washington D.C. as a lawyer. There, his boss David Baldacci sold a novel and then became a bestselling author, which inspired Carlivati to pursue his own dreams of writing.

He moved to New York City with a goal of securing employment at a soap, and through a serendipitous encounter, became a writer’s assistant at One Life to Live. He ultimately was named the show’s head writer and picked up his first Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series in 2008. Carlivati then toiled as top scribe at General Hospital from 2012-15, where he utilized beloved vets like Genie Francis (Laura Spencer), Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio) and Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) to great fanfare. After joining Days, Carlivati’s team picked up a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Writing and the show was named Outstanding Drama Series in 2018.

In conclusion, Carlivati notes, “My material will continue to air through April of 2025, so I really hope you enjoy what’s coming!”
