Like most megacorps, I'd imagine it's bottom line. Work harder with less, make us more money. It's a shame too. Personally - just my opinion - I think they're just interested in keeping Days to its 50th. I fear it won't be long after that the final axe falls. :(

I think they want to keep the show as long as possible but I don't think NBC will renew it past the current contract if these dismal ratings continue. Unfortunately, that might be the late wake-up call TIIC need.

The problem is that NBC suits are a big part of the problem that's led to the dismal ratings in the first place.

I completely agree, Jnta. That's why I think they're holding out until after the 50th (which will likely bring increased ratings) and then will cancel it when the natural post-celebratory ratings entropy hits. This maximises their profits without them having to actually do anything.
