Looks like all the soaps recovered from the previous week's losses, however, Days really has a dismal increase and rating compared to the other soaps.
and, in my opinion that does not matter, this is the result of taping so far ahead that Days is unable to jettison what is not working, or change a few things to lead to a different outcome. When these writers took over, Days was filming 3 mos. ahead, which was still too far, but more manageable. And 2 years later they have nearly doubled that. They are over 5 months ahead, and are nearing the 6 months ahead mark. Thus they drag story out endlessly, use a lot of filler, & cause viewers to lose interest.

First off, way to go GH! Secondly, I agree with Poirot. This taping schedule is very detrimental to the overall success of the show. I watch Y&R and GH which are both about 6 weeks, give or take, ahead in their taping. You can tell when story lines suddenly take a different direction due to fan reaction. I get that Days has their budget constraints, but like Poirot said, they were once 3 months ahead and now are nearly 6. It's horrible. I hate that when actors do interviews all they can say is "keep on watching" or "wait and see" because they're not even sure what's airing right now or can't remember what they taped 5+ months ago. I don't see things changing any time soon.

With the taping so far in advance, and story lines dragging out, many people are no longer interested in the show even though this was a big reveal week. The problem is both the Nicole reveal and Gabi as the shooter should have been done during sweeps period and then they may have had better ratings for these episodes.

One idea to cut down on the taping schedule is have someone edit those episodes where the same conversation is gone over and over again to the point where the audience has no interest and trim the episodes. The Daniel/Nicole/Eric story could have been done in a week rather than a month, and everyone would not be so tired of it. If the episodes currently taped but not aired are edited, they could probably cut out all of the redundant scenes and the taping schedule would only be two to three months ahead of airing instead of the ridiculous five months ahead.

I'm not sure that TIIC necessarily want to change anything, even when faced with the continued failure of story and character direction. The suits have repeatedly stubbornly returned to failed couplings, story direction and character destruction time and time again in spite of failing ratings and audience disapproval. Just think back to 2007-2008 when the show was on the verge of cancellation, then finally dug itself out, and yet again set itself up to plummet in the Spring of 2010 and never recovered from those losses. Producing a good balanced show seems to come second to trying to come up with a formula that pulls in what they perceive to be their coveted demographics. IMO that approach has repeatedly proven to be a failure.

I'm not taking up for the writers, producers or networks, but just maybe it's all about the budget. Perhaps they can't bring back the vets and have a lot of story lines going because they simply can't afford it. They could be using the actors they have available and only hiring new younger (and cheaper) folks for filler. Everything they do is to save money so they can stay on the air. Just a thought..........

Nope in my opinion, its not JUST about the budget. Back in 2008 they cut the budget, but the writing improved and the ratings went up substantially. They brought back several vets back in 2011 or 2012, but continue not to use them to full potential and assassinate their characters. Yes shooting so far ahead is a huge problem, but I still say that the bigger issue continues to be an unwillingness on the part of TIIC to concentrate on producing a worthy product instead of looking for easy demographic related fixes. This is not only a problem with Days, I think its true throughout NBC.

I agree Jnta. Does anyone here even watch The Biggest Loser anymore? It seems to me that ship sailed a few seasons ago yet NBC continues to keep it on the air by cutting from 2 seasons to 1 per year and cutting it from 2 hours to 1. Now they are moving it to Thursday nights against Grey's Anatomy. Good luck with that NBC.

As for Days, they destroyed Carrie and Austin in 2012, 2 characters I was very excited to see back. Their behavior was way out of character for what they had gone through previously. I know Carrie had cheated previously but her cheating with Rafe was a whole other issue. Plus it was out of character for Rafe. EJ and Abigail started spiking the ratings in January and early February. It is now early June and only now does it look like we are starting to see the writer's reactions to January based on spoilers for the next couple weeks. Sad.

TPTB need to realize that if they produce a quality product, then the ad revenue from companies like Walmart, Procter & Gamble, etc will follow. Not the other way around.

NBC seems to have a micro-managing issue that starts somewhere high-up in the offices...ABC/Disney did the same thing with AMC (I didn't watch OLTL) and look how that turned out.
NBC itself needs an overhaul - and it's not all about the money. The network is co-owned by General Electric & Comcast - have you seen household bills lately???

NBC seems to be very focused on producing prime-time gems like Go On, The Michael J Fox Show, Animal Practice, Smash, Sean Saves the World, Ironside and other wonderous shows that seem to be cancelled in the first season. I don't know who the problem is - or if it's more than one who, but someone else needs to wake up & figure out that comedic shows need to actually be funny & original rather than stale & predictable. Their drama shows seem to fare well - Grimm, Chicago Fire, etc - scripted dramas/night-time soaps (whether they admit it or not, they are).

The problem is with the writers, yes, but it goes much higher than that. Days needs to simply stop production for 4 months - give the cast & crew a much-needed rest so they can go off & do movies, travel, guest on prime-time shows, etc - and then re-group, having no more than a 6-8 WEEK lead-time. Expand the cast & rotate them out like GH does so the faces don't become tiresome. The writers also need more of a comprehension of the Marland Rules (http://www.welovesoaps.net/2008/09/douglas-marland-how-not-to-wreck-show.html ) and a nice long-lead time to plan stories out, in other words give the show a 3-4 YEAR renewal instead of just another 1 or 2. That and Ken Corday needs to re-evaluate what Days used to be about, family, intrigue, dialogue, sets, etc and get back to that instead of bed-hopping, drug-using and characters being shoved front & center before we get to know & love (or hate) them. All of that, coupled with new writers (I think Lorraine Broderick would be an excellent choice) might give Days some hope for better ratings.

Older vets (by that I mean previously on Days) are not all that expensive any more. They are NOT WORKING...and with all the cancelled soaps, there are a lot of excellent actors out there who are NOT WORKING.
I do agree that NBC has done poorly in their management, show selection, etc. And they DO insist on certain aspects of the show......and not just daytime Days, but some primetime as well.
But it is useless to to say Corday should do this or that. He doesn't care, doesn't see what is going on, and doesn't understand what "fix" is needed. When Ali Sweeney was talking about the surprise party for her last day, and the different folks that came, she mentioned how thrilled she was that Ken Corday even came. One would think she saw him every day, because he should be there every day. He leaves it all in the hands of others, and does what they "advise".

It is whoever is influencing Days from the network suits, Plus Greg Meng, and that gal, Lisa De Cazotte

Always good to trot out the Marland rules. I was watching Rafe today and thought of them.

Sometimes I wonder why NBC doesn't just cancel Days altogether since they seem to have so little energy invested in its success. But then again, we as fans probably define success differently than the suits.
