@robinsnest what does that saying mean? I'm not challenging you on it but rather just curious? Is it an American saying with reference to your Liberty Bell with a different name?

yes, Muzza, During the Christmas shopping season, the Salvation Army members all take turns, standing in various locations in large shopping areas, ringing a huge bell, and standing beside a large metal kettle attached to a holder of sorts. Boy, when I lived in Chicago, they were on every corner in the very busy downtown area, middle of the block.....just everywhere.
Up north here, tis a very small area, so sometimes the person is in a Santa suit, sometimes it a female in a rather vintage grey long dress....Our area is only a couple blocks long. But they will put the kettle and stand just inside the supermaket doors, same (at times) at WalMart. They don't always have enough people, so........most of the times, the kettle stands alone, lol........but everyone knows why it is there, what it is for.

It's the Salvation Army bell ringers...Red Kettle campaign for Christmas...
