The Last Blast Teens appeared in 1999. The “cool” group were the three teens, children of well-known Salemites: Belle Black, daughter of John and Marlena Evans Black; Shawn Douglas Brady, son of Hope and Bo Brady; and Philip Kiriakis, son of Victor Kiriakis and Kate Roberts. Also included were Belle’s best friend Mimi Lockhart, Shawn and Philip’s friend Jason and his quasi-girlfriend Jan Spears. On the fringe were non-cool kids -Kevin, Penny, the Gothic-dressed outcast, Chloe Lane. Chloe arrived in Salem when her biological mother Nancy Wesley found her in foster care and claimed her. Nancy, wife of Craig Wesley, the often underhanded Chief of Staff at Salem U. Hosp, was raped years ago by her father’s friend, became pregnant, then gave Chloe up for adoption. (Eventually Craig was proven to be Chloe’s biological dad.) No one ever adopted Chloe, who instead, was raised in foster homes, resulting in Chloe harboring a great deal of anger. She comforted herself by devoting her time to being trained as a lyrical opera singer, hiding behind black-rimmed eyeglasses and baggy black clothes.

Because of the way Chloe dressed and her demeanor, the kids at school began calling her Ghoul Girl, endlessly ridiculed & tormented her, & made her the butt of various pranks. Chloe was befriended by Belle's older brother, Brady, who saw more than "Ghoul Girl" in her.

Philip had a crush on Belle, who only had eyes for Shawn. Philip and Shawn spent many afternoons competing at video games. Philip, who had a penchant for gambling, made a bet with Shawn... loser of the game had to take Ghoul Girl to the Last Blast dance, an annual school prom. Philip lost, reluctantly asked Chloe to the dance.

Mimi was jealous of Belle’s new friendship with Chloe, and Jan used that to manipulate Mimi into pulling off various pranks against Chloe. Jan, Mimi, and Jason plotted to turn the Last Blast dance of 2000 into a scene from the movie Carrie, complete with a bucket of blood raining down over Chloe. When Philip and Chloe arrived at the dance, he was rather impatient with her, since she wore a long black coat and he feared she would embarrass him. When she took off the coat, revealing the Cinderella within... a blue-eyed, raven-haired bombshell with an hourglass figure all dolled up in a form-fitting red dress... all the teens were stunned at the revelation, while Philip was delighted his date turned out to be the most beautiful belle of the ball.
They danced to Leann Rimes’ “I Need You,” which becomes their song. Shawn and Belle danced in a competition and impressed the crowd with their dancing prowess. During the course of the evening, while Philip & Chloe were on the stage, the bucket of blood was released. Shawn pushed Chloe out of the way in time, and Philip became the recipient of the bloodbath.
From this point forward, the focus moved to the romances of Philip and Chloe, and of Belle and Shawn, with Jan’s continual scheming against Chloe as a backdrop.

Philip was instrumental in helping to bring Chloe out of her shell and getting her to let down her defenses. He made the mistake, however, of lying to Chloe about his father being dead. The two of them were in the Kiriakis stables naked and about to make love for the first time when Victor walked in and interrupted. Chloe was both embarrassed and angry to find that Philip lied and his father was very much alive. So tit for tat, she lied to her parents and told them Philip raped her. After Philip was punched by Craig and questioned by the police, Chloe admitted she lied. The two resume their relationship, somewhat worse for wear. Philip carved his and Chloe’s initials in a tree (“P&C 4 Ever”) and tells her that in a hundred years, people will know how much he loved her. Despite her feelings for Philip, Chloe remains guarded.
Meanwhile, Belle and Shawn fell in love but made a pledge to wait until marriage to consummate their relationship. They exchanged promise rings to signify their commitment.

Jan and Mimi continued to plot against Chloe, tormenting her by doing things like putting a dead rat in her locker at school, replacing her shampoo with something gummy, and luring her into the school showers so they could take naked pictures of her without her knowledge.

Jan and Mimi planned to show the naked pictures of Chloe on a projector at the 2001 Last Blast Dance. When the slide appeared on the big screen at the dance with the words “OperaGirl.net,” it was made to look like Chloe created the website to make money. Philip was disgusted by it and instead of asking questions, he assumed the worst, and called Chloe horrible names. Stunned and hurt, she did not defend herself and Philip walked out. Philip eventually learned the truth and attempted to reconcile with Chloe, but things were never the same. Her faith in him was shaken.

The teens all went to Puerto Rico for the summer on an school sponsored environmental expedition, but Chloe stayed behind because she was not feeling well. On the island, Mimi and Kevin flirted the entire time, Shawn searched for and found a lost gem that belonged to his great grandmother Alice, while Philip pined away for Chloe. Jason started behaving erratically and mistreated Jan, who innocently turned to the man who piloted the boat used to sail them over from the mainland. What she didn't realize was that the man was Paul Mendez, Nicole Walker’s abusive father. He raped Jan and she became pregnant. Shawn supported Jan, even offering to help raise her baby, driving a wedge between him and Belle.

In Salem, Chloe had become friendlier with Belle’s older brother Brady. In the beginning, Brady was rather rude to Chloe and insulted her singing, but he was really trying to hide the fact that he was attracted to her. As their friendship grew, they began singing together for fun which helped them to bond, and ultimately fall in love. When Philip found out, he was devastated and schemed to break them up, but was unsuccessful. Chloe was diagnosed with leukemia and started undergoing treatments.

At graduation, the teens were seated together and, in a poignant moment, Philip and Chloe hold hands, even though they were now just friends. Still heartbroken over their breakup, Philip enlisted in the Marines to put some distance between himself and Chloe, and left town. This signaled the end of the Last Blast Teens era.

Post-Graduation: What Ever Happened to ...

Belle was torn between Shawn and Philip, but married Philip. They had a daughter who turned out to be Shawn’s. Belle and Philip wanted a second child and tried in vitro fertilization, but Belle miscarried. After it was learned that Claire was Shawn’s daughter, Belle and Philip divorced and she married Shawn.

Shawn was held hostage by crazy Jan, who later tried to murder Victor Kiriakis in a plot with Nicole Walter. Shawn was married to Mimi briefly. He is currently married to Belle and they are sailing on the Fancy Face IV with their daughter Claire.

Philip married Belle and was shipped off to the Marines for his second tour of duty, losing an arm and a leg, I mean a face to go with the leg he lost during his first tour of duty. When he returned, he and Belle divorced, he became CEO of Titan Industries, the business his father started. He decided he wanted custody of Claire, even though she wasn’t his biological child, and chased Belle and Shawn to a remote island. Ultimately, the three resolved their differences, but Claire remained in her parents’ custody.

In 2008, Chloe & Philip had a no-strings fling, called it a "friends with benefits" arrangement. Later, Philip was engaged to Stephanie Johnson, but they broke up. Philip married Melanie Layton in February 2010. He and Chloe had a drunken one-night stand in April 2010. Philip is currently married to Melanie.

Chloe married Brady Black, moved to Vienna, Austria to embark on an opera career. She returned to Salem in 2007, accused of causing Brady to do drugs by introducing him to the wrong crowd. They divorced in 2008. After a no-strings fling with Philip, Chloe married his brother Lucas whose mother Kate tried to kill Chloe after learning she cheated on Lucas with Kate’s boyfriend, Dr. Daniel Jonas. After divorcing Lucas, Chloe and Daniel got together. While engaged to Daniel, Chloe and Philip had a drunken one-night stand in April 2010. Chloe became pregnant, a paternity test revealed the baby to be Daniel’s. What Chloe, Daniel and Philip don’t know is that Caroline Brady claims she switched the test results. Chloe is currently married to Daniel and gave birth to a baby boy named Parker.

Mimi married Shawn briefly and after a failed attempt to get pregnant, they tried invitro fertilization at the same time as Belle and Philip. The petri dishes were supposedly switched and Mimi’s egg met Philip’s sperm. Not interested in having a child together, Mimi and Philip signed away rights to the baby who was later located (Tyler) Whether Tyler is the child of Philip and Mimi or Shawn and Belle is a question still being debated. Mimi and Shawn divorced, she left town after learning she killed her father as a youngster.

Jan miscarried Paul Mendez’ baby, went nutso and held Shawn hostage in a cage to be her sex slave. She is currently in a coma due to an injury she suffered during an argument with Mimi.
Jason’s whereabouts are unknown and unimportant.

On the trip to that island, where Shawn was trying to find his grandmothers jewel, Paul was after that same jewel.. He had killed (I think) the original captain of the boat, to portray the captain himself, so he could follow the group to the island for the jewel..

I know the teens were all SORAS'd, but the show did an excellent casting job, and they really were not boring at all. As a result, they not only captured the interest of younger viewers, but older ones as well. Oh, they managed to get in a bit of trouble, and cause angst here and there, but their stories held your interest, no matter the age.
