Because John got sold/taken from Winterthorne to Stefano.........so did not live the assassin on command life that Eduardo did. Supposedly, Stefano erased all of John's memories, and did some different training himself, including giving him, eventually, Roman's memories.

Plus, everybody now knows Eduardo was a deadbeat dad who left two separate families.

All John did was have sex with Marlena and ruin Sami's life.
