It surprises me that Days so frequently reuses names. There are so many names out there, but they constantly reuse them. (excluding when babies are named for characters)

Most recently, Serena Mason. Back in the 90's, Serena was Diana Colville's mother.

Ian McAllister's mother's name was Yvette. Yvette Dupres was a prostitute back in the late 80's, early 90's.

Ian Griffin, later Ian McAllister

Madison James came in as Sami's former grade school friend. Madison was also the name of the Fake-Jennifer during Jack's escape from the island during the Salem Stalker storyline.

Arianna was a baby Mimi rocked in the hospital nursery one day. Later that was the name given to Rafe's sister.

Megan Hathaway (Stefano's daughter) was a high school classmate and girlfriend of Bo's. She convinced him she had gotten pregnant with his baby and was shipped to Europe to give birth and give it up for adoption. She said she had a little boy. Megan paid a hooker, Diane Parker, for her little boy Zach and told Bo it was their son. It took awhile, but Bo finally figured out everything and reunited Diane with Zach.

Years later, Bo and Hope's son would be named Zack.

Pete Jannings was Melissa's first husband. Peter Blake was Stefano's adopted son.

Max Brady was adopted by Shawn and Caroline. Max was the name of Bonnie Lockhart's dog.

Nicole's father's name was Paul Mendez. Sonny's ex-boyfriend is Paul.

Mike Horton was involved with psycho nurse, Ali McIntyre. Lucas named his daughter Alice Caroline (after her great-grandmothers), but she's called Allie.

Kate Winograd was the woman Bill Horton had an affair with (history was rewritten to say it was Kate Roberts instead). Later Kate Honeycutt was the nurse Stefano hired to take care of Sami and Eric after he kidnapped them (as infants).

Nick Corelli and Nicholas Alamain. Later, the name was used again for Nick Fallon.

Meredith Hudson, later Meredith Jennings.

Tony Merritt, later Tony DiMera

Gabrielle Pascal (Eve's mother); later Gabriella Hernandez

Cassie Scofield, later Cassie Brady

Mary Anderson and later (Sister) Mary Moira; now, Mary the DiMera housekeeper.

Larry Atwood, later Larry Welch.

Tom Horton, later Thomas Banks.

Jack Clayton, later Jack Deveraux (whose original name was Billy, which came after Bill Horton)

Phillip Colville, later Phillip Collier, then Philip Kiriakis

Ben Olson and Ben Walters (organ stealing doctor) and now Ben Rogers

I'm sure there are many others, but these are the names that came to mind.

LOL, I thought perhaps this thread was going to refer to how many characters are named after other characters, thus confusing folks, and having to make up nicknames.

Well, we did have character and a dog named Max, now we have a character named Maxine
And we had Johnny Corelli and little Johnny DiMera, plus John Black. Stefano and Steve Johnson.

And I agree, there are tons of names, actually common names, that don't seem to be used. Can't recall a Rick, Jim, Shirley, Judy, Sally, Sharon, Randy, Stan, Veronica, Betty, Debbie, Carl, Ed, Fred, Frank, George...(sorry if some of these were used before I ever began watching, but it does seem the show uses many of same names over and over. )

Same names?? The same reason for the writers' unsatisfactory plot lines -- lack of imagination. There are all sorts of plots that can be adapted from novels, historical events, or old movies, but instead, the writers often rely on such trite soap devices as comas (when will John slip into another one?), amnesia, miracle cures, and previously unknown parents or children (this means you, Dr. McScruffy), or even worse doubling down on such past debacles as "hate boinks."

We also have André DiMera and Andrew Donovan, both evil twins, basically the same name. I find the most offence when both characters were major (Nick, Nick, and Nick; Tony & Tony), but in most cases it doesn't bother me bunches. I have three friends named Matt, three named Kyle, and when I was growing up, there were 8 Jasons in my grade in elementary school.

Not to drag the thread off topic - but I've been curious about the Kate Winograd/Roberts thing. I wasn't watching a lot when the whole "maybe Lucas isn't a Horton" thing was happening - and in the 1990s, in the original story, Kate Roberts was a different character than Kate Winograd - can someone fill in the gaps for me??

Jason......just one word......"rewrite". Kate Winograd was a nurse at the hospital, with whom Bill Horton had an affair. This caused Laura Horton to go over the edge, and the big nervous breakdown. Kate was pregnant, abusive husband threw her out, Marlena befriended her, she had her baby, and left town.
When Kate returned, she was now Kate Roberts, her son was in military school, and she had gone to New York, was befriended by Stefano, became "escort" and eventually into the corporate world.

I wonder if we should get together and send Days' writers a baby name book. Or maybe a few phone books with names underlined....so when they are looking for a name......
Actually, the LA phone book is huge. why not open it to a random page, close eyes, and press finger down.

I've been thinking about the reused names for a while. But JS provided more characters with the same names that I didn't hear of before. I'm going to agree with many on here. They have no imagination, so they recycle names just as they do storylines.

There was Alex Marshall, later they had Alex North.

Which is interesting because Alex North was played by
Wayne Northrop

There is also Alexandra (female form Alex) Carver

Don't forget Alexander Kiriakis.

In the 80's they had Nikki Wade, then Nicole Walker. Granted, not the same name, but Nikki is usually a nickname for Nicole.

Also, Jessica's last name was Blake (Nick Fallon's mother). Later, Kristen and Peter were given the same last name, although they were no relation to Jessica.

They also had Stephanie Woodruff and later Stephanie Johnson, although she was named after her father, Steve Johnson.

Lili Faversham was involved with Princess Gina. Later, Daniel's mother was given the name Lillian Parker Jonas.

Doug's real name is Brent Douglas; Sonny and Will's friend from a few years ago was named Brent.
