It's a new day and Christmas Eve in Salem. Have your tissues ready.

Tate is in the pub. There's a big Happy Birthday sign. He's on the phone with Roman, thanking him for letting him use the pub. Tate says Holly is going to be surprised. He mentions Steve and Kayla, but not Kate. They hang up and his phone rings. It's Sophia.

Holly is in the K-Mansion den, putting a bow on a box. Maggie comes in with box and wishes her a happy birthday. She tells Holly the box was just delivered for her birthday. Holly says Maggie gave her a lot already including a new wardrobe. Maggie says it's from your mother.

Sarah walks into the bedroom and tells Xander she got Victoria dressed in her suit. She finds Xander putting on a kilt for the Horton party and reminds it's going to snow. He says he has a shirt and coat to wear. Sarah that's good because Julie doesn't want to remember him sleeping naked on the couch. Xander talks about how Jack let him stay, but he returned his kindness when he blackmailed him for the paper. Sarah says she's happy he gave paper the back. Xander says he lost the best friend he ever had.

Jen, Jack and JJ are in Horton Town Square. Jen talks about being happy they got to spend time with Chad and kids before going to Orlando. They're going to Universal Studios. Jen says she thought Julie would be upset with them being gone for the holidays. Jack says that having Dougie there is good for her and she's bonded with him. Jen says Julie was upset when she suggested he stole the necklace. JJ and Jack look at her.

Dougie's on the phone in the Horton living room. He's leaving a message for Leo, wondering if he sold the necklace yet. Dougie says he needs the cash and to call him back. Julie walks in and wonder who he's talking to.

Julie didn't mean to eavesdrop on his call, but she heard him say he needed money, then says Merry Christmas. Dougie lies and says he was trying to call his dad. He wants some cash since he doesn't have money and wants to pay his way while he's there. He wants to pay rent. Julie says that's he's Doug's grandson and he can stay as long as he wants without paying. She says he reminds her of Doug and she wants to get to know him. Dougie says he's enjoying getting to know about Doug and her family. Julie says he'll see the Horton family tradition tonight.

JJ and Jack question Jen why she thinks Dougie stole the necklace since they thought Steven did. Jen says they have no proof Steven took it and that Julie told her Dougie was in jail before he came to town.

Holly's on the phone with Nicole, says she loves her gift, a bottle of perfume. Holly will call her again later and to give her love to Jude and Eric. Then she says goodbye. She puts on some perfume so Maggie can smell it. Holly hopes Tate will like it. She's going to meet him to exchange gifts and she'll stop by the Horton house to hang her ornament later, then she leaves with the gifts.

Tate finally answers his phone. He asks about her morning sickness. Sophia made her appointment for Saturday. Tate will take her. Since it's out of state, they will leave Friday night. He says she's not alone. It's his baby too and no one else will have to know about it. He promises (it's Salem, it won't be a secret forever).

Holly walks into the pub. She calls out for Tate. He pops up from behind the bar and yells surprise. Holly can't believe it. Tate wanted to do something special for her 18th birthday since it's on Christmas Eve. Holly says it's the best thing someone ever did for her. Tate says she deserves it. They kiss.

Shawn walks into the K-Mansion with a bag and wishes Maggie a Merry Christmas. He brought her gift and will see her later at the Horton house. He wanted to see her before he went to the mausoleum to visit Victor. Maggie opens her gift. It's a picture with her and Victor. She gets teary eyed and says it's the perfect gift and hugs him.

Sarah finishes getting ready for the party. Xander kisses her neck. Sarah says he looks so sexy in his kilt. Xander wants to do something before they leave. Sarah wonders if they have time? Xander says they do since he's a traditional Scotsman and doesn't wear undies. It saves time. Xander talks about putting Sarah on Santa's naughty list. They kiss.

Julie opens the box of ornaments. She tells Dougie they mean more to her than gold. Dougie asks if everyone has one? Julie says yes. It was her grandfather's mother who started it. She made the original ornaments for Tom and Alice. Julie says every Christmas Eve people get their ornament. Dougie says this means a lot to you. Julie says it's the best part of the holiday. She says this night is when people come back home and the tree shows us who they're connect to. The people who showed us love and had faith with each other. Julie says "to never forget all the days of our lives that whatever this world throws at us, good or bad, we can share it" and looks directly at Dougie. She says the ones who care about us most is family.

JJ asks why Dougie in jail? Jen says she's trying to find out. Julie didn't ask him and she's got people looking into it. Jack says it's probably nothing. JJ says it would be serious and we don't know anything about him and if Julie is bonding with him, what if he's dangerous? They all look at each other.

Holly's looking at her first gift. It's a bracelet with H and T, and heart in the middle. She kisses him. Tate says that was for her birthday. The rest of the gifts for Christmas. Holly hands him a gift. She bought tickets for a concert for a group he likes. He didn't know they were coming. The concert is Friday night (oh oh).

Maggie tells Shawn she remembers when the picture taken. Victor was being grumpy and to make him smile she told him if he didn't, she would invite all his ex-wives for Christmas. Even Vivian. Shawn says it's hard to believe Konstantin was responsible for his death. Maggie says he was an evil man and she believed he cared about Victor. She says he gave her the portrait of Victor and she wonders if she should destroy it.

Sarah and Xander are kissing in bed. She says Christmas is starting with a wonderful start. Xander says it is getting better. He pulls out a box from under the bed. Sarah says they're doing gifts tomorrow. Xander says this one has to be opened now.

Julie says to Dougie it's a tragedy he didn't meet his grandfather, and that Doug loved this night and carols. She asks if he knew Doug was a singer? He sang with love and heart. Then says he did everything with love and heart. Julie tells Dougie that Doug is happy that he's here to keep her company. Dougie says he feels that Doug is here with us the way she talks about him. She says he's very thoughtful with tears in her eyes.

Jack, JJ and Jen arrive at the house. Julie asks if Chad and the kids left on time? Jack says yes and they should arrive in Orlando soon. Julie wants to see a lot of pictures. Jen sees the ornaments. Julie says she was telling Dougie the history. Then she tell she didn't have time to make him one, but next year he'll have one. Dougie says he's not a Horton. Julie says he is since he's family. JJ says yes he's family now and they want to get to know him. Dougie asks what do they want to know? JJ asks why he was in jail? Julie makes a face.

Julie tells JJ he's being rude. JJ says they need to know more about him since he's living her and Abby's kids do too. Julie says the interrogation can wait until after the holidays. Dougie says he understands. He says he didn't get along well with his dad. When he found out about Doug, he wanted to know about his other family. He said he got along with Robert (using the correct pronunciation), but when he passed away, it was just him and his dad. Then he changed his last name to Williams and started his journey to Salem. He found out Doug died and got drunk. He was in a fight and got arrested. Dougie says he spent two nights in jail before he got sprung and they can contact Chicago PD to verify it. Julie says that won't be necessary and she's glad he came. She hugs him. JJ, Jen, and Jack don't look happy. Dougie is smiling. Julie gives the others the side eye.

Shawn and Maggie sit on the couch. Shawn tells her Konstantin wanted to destroy her love for Victor, but he failed. He says her and Victor's love still go on. She's grateful what he said.

Sarah opens her box. Inside are high heeled red shoes. Sarah says they're gorgeous. She says her father Mickey gave her mom red shoes. Xander says he knows that and why he bought them for her. Maggie told him her story about being on crutches and wanting to dance. He tells the whole story and Mickey gave her the shoes to have her dreams fulfilled. Xander says and their dreams have too. She gets weepy and says she only got him an air fryer. They kiss and laugh.

Holly asks Tate if something is wrong? Tate says he can't go since he has plans. Holly asks if he can change them? Tate lies and says he's seeing is grandparents in California. Holly didn't know. He says it just came up and he feels he needs to see him since his mom in Statesville. Holly says they can go the next time band in town and his grandparents need him. They hug. Tate looks guilty. He looks at the blue sweater she gave him and says it's great. He wants her to open gifts. Holly says she has to take a break to hang her ornament on the tree, and leaves. Tate says ok since they have the whole place the rest of the night. They kiss and she leaves. Tate's not happy after she leaves.

Xander and Sarah walk in the K-Mansion den. Xander says Merry Christmas to Maggie. She whistles at him when she sees the kilt. Sarah shows off her red shoes. Xander says he was inspired by her story. Maggie is overwhelmed. Sarah says her love with Mickey inspires everyday. Xander says her and Victor's love does the same thing. Maggie says their love inspires her. (awww) Maggie and Sarah hug. They need to leave to get to the Horton house. Xander wants to hang ornaments. Maggie looks at Victor's portrait and wishes him a Merry Christmas.

JJ, Jen and Jack are sitting. Shawn shakes Dougie's hand and he's glad to meet him. Dougie asks if they're first cousins? Shawn says yes and they're both carrying their grandfather's name. Julie takes Dougie to kitchen to get food. Shawn greets the others. Jack says Shawn is back at the Salem PD. Shawn says yes and Jada wants to hire JJ. Jack and Jen are shocked. JJ hasn't made up his mind yet. Shawn says if he does, they can be partners.

Maggie, Xander, Sarah and Victoria enter the Horton house foyer. Everyone's excited since it's snowing. Sarah and Xander walk off. Maggie's in foyer when Holly walks in. Julie and Dougie come out with the food. Julie introduces Dougie to Maggie and Holly. He's glad to meet them. Holly and Dougie look at each other.

It's dark outside now. The Horton tree lights are on. Julie says Dougie reminded her Doug's spirit is with them tonight. Jen agrees. Julie says the house is filled with the spirit of all their loved ones. Sarah's trying to control Victoria. Julie gets weepy and is glad everyone is there tonight. Xander says even me? Julie walks close to him and says even him.

Sarah and Xander put Victoria's ornament on the tree. Maggie hangs hers by Victor and Mickey's. Sarah smiles at her. We see Daniel and Parker's ornaments. Holly hangs hers by theirs and Melanie's. She then sits down by Julie and they hold hands. Jen, Jack and JJ are by the tree. We see Thomas, Charlotte, Abby and Chad's ornaments. Jen puts hers next to Jack. Julie smiles. We see Bill and Laura's ornament when JJ hangs his. Shawn is next. We see Bo and Hope's ornaments. Shawn puts his by Belle and Claire's ornaments. Then we see Ben, Ciara, Zack, and Bo II's ornaments, and he hangs Addie II's ornament. The camera shows Eli, Lani, David Abraham, Jules and Carver's ornaments. Then Jeremy, Mike, Jessica, Scotty, David, Steven, Tom, Alice, Addie's ornaments.

Julie hangs her ornament. She takes Doug's ornament from the box and walks over to the tree. She stops and turns, then asks Dougie to hang his grandfather's ornament. Everyone is surprised. Dougie doesn't want to, but she insists. Dougie hangs the ornament next to Julie's. She's overwhelmed, then goes to the ornament box and closes the lid.

Xander walks over to Jack. He's sorry they didn't get the answer about Abigail they were looking for. Jack appreciates it. Xander asks about the paper? Jack says Chad is doing a good job. Xander walks away. Jack stops him, holds out his hand and wishes Xander a Merry Christmas. They shake hands and hug while Xander says Merry Christmas. Julie claps her hands and reminds everyone this is when Doug would lead them in songs. Julie asks JJ to start. JJ starts singing "Oh come all ye faithful". Everyone joins in. Julie is smiling.

Jen, Jack and JJ are straightening up the living room after everyone has left. JJ asks his parents what they thought of Dougie's story why he was in jail? Jack says they can verify it. Jen says she doesn't trust him. She says Julie vulnerable and she hesitates to go back to Boston tomorrow. JJ says not to worry, he'll keep an eye on Julie while they're gone. JJ is staying in Salem and will work at the Salem PD. Jack and Jen are happy. Jen is proud of him and happy he'll keep an eye on Julie.

Maggie with Xander are in the den when Sarah comes in. Victoria's in bed. Maggie is going to bed too. She hugs Sarah. Maggie leaves. Sarah tells Xander they have a gifts to wrap. Xander pulls out his phone and says he has something better to do. He wants to dance with Sarah. Jazzy Christmas music plays while they dance.

Holly's back at the pub and blows out a candle on her cupcake. She tells Tate she made a wish, but feels greedy after the great birthday he made for her. She says he's the best boyfriend in the world. Tate looks sad and has something to tell her. He hesitates, then tells Holly he loves her. Holly is surprised. He says he's felt that way a long time. She wants him to say it again. He smiles and says he loves her. Holly says she loves him too. They kiss.

Julie and Dougie walk into Horton living room. She thanks him for the help in the kitchen. He asks if she needs more help? She tells him go to go bed. Julie walks to the tree and Doug's ornament. She says all night she's been thinking about their first Christmas Eve together. Flashback of Doug and Julie. She wants him to open his present. She bought him a watch. Doug says it's beautiful. Julie says there's an inscription. It says "to my secret love". She puts in on his wrist. Back in the present, Julie looks around the living room. She says "gone from my sight, never from my heart". Julie looks up and says Merry Christmas, my love.

Great episode. I liked how the ornaments were shown by the small family groups.

Why didn't they have the Christmas Eve episode on Christmas Eve? Yesterday's show was blah.

Holly got a bottle of perfume from her mom. Was it sent from France or did she order from a
place in the states? I'm surprised the bottle wasn't broken.

Dougie says he got sprung out of jail. Did someone bail him out or was he just let go?

It's too bad how they made Bo II and Addie II ornaments. They should have added middle names.

Xander's kilt picture under the towel topic.

The end of the show with Julie mourning/missing Doug had me in tears........was missing my husband even more, remembering days of yore. Agree with Kat about liking the way the ornaments were shown, and also wondering why this episode wasn't shown yesterday, on Christmas Eve?? Odd.
And very odd was the gift Holly received from her mother......perfume??? Really??? Is there something in the future that will explain that choice?

(just a shame the show won't bring Ari Zucker back (Nicole), but happy the character still exists. I hope they don't try to recast. )

It's too bad how they made Bo II and Addie II ornaments. They should have added middle names.
I don't think baby Bo and baby Addie's ornaments are particularly nice. I see what they were going for, but the attempts fell flat (in my opinion). My apologies to the Days prop person who made those ones, but they're not as nice as the others. Holly's is pretty lackluster too. It should've matched Daniel's, Melanie's and Parker's, which were all done with similar swirls.

It was her grandfather's mother who started it. She made the original ornaments
I'm glad the writers remembered the actual history of the ornaments, that Tom's mother made them for Tom, Alice and the five kids (Tommy, Addie, Mickey, Bill and Marie). When they did that newly created flashback episode of young Tom and Alice, the writers messed up and had Alice say she bought them one day and proudly showed them to Tom.

Also glad they remembered the correct pronunciation of Robert LeClair's name today (pronounced the French way like "Roe-bear" and not like how American's say "Robert"). They had Little Dougie, Julie and the others saying it as "Robert" when Dougie first showed up after the funeral. Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie) should've known the correct pronunciation since she was literally in scenes with Robert Clary (Robert LeClair) back in the day.

I thought it was lovely. Great use of history with Xander giving Sarah the red shoes. Sweet moment with Shawn and Maggie. He's kind of the forgotten Victor grandchild. And the Horton house scenes were perfect, especially seeing a real Victoria and Jack and Xander making amends. The final scene with a classic Julie and Doug flashback was really good, as was Clan Deveraux putting Doug 3 on notice. Only buzz kill was the boring pub stuff with dull Tate and Holly. I am already shipping her with bad boy Doug 3.

I wish Days would stop using the same names. Give the characters original names.
All the soaps tend to name new babies after established characters. It's been noted on the board many times. JJ was named after his dad Jack, and Patrick Lockhart (his full name is Jack Patrick) but he's called JJ for Jack Jr. (even though he's not an actual junior). Sonny was also named after Jack.

Thomas was named for Tom Horton and his grandpa Jack. Steve and Kayla's son Joey was named after Steve's mother, Jo Johnson. Justin and Adrienne named the twins Victor II and Joseph after Victor and Jo Johnson. Alex Kiriakis was named after Justin's dead father, Alexander.

Baby Bo was named for his grandpa Bo. Baby Addie was named for her great-grandmother.

There are several lists on the board of how most of the babies in Salem were named for other people.

The last babies not named after someone else were Jude (although his middle name is Roman), Henry (his middle name is Lucas), Charlotte (has no middle name), Holly (her middle name is Fay after Nicole's mother), Sydney (her middle name is just Ann, after no one), Grace (her middle name was Rafaella after Rafe), Ciara (her middle name is Alice), Claire (has no middle name) and Tate (Brady and Jeannie T said if he had been a girl, they'd have named her Melanie, since she was the one who put the pieces together that Tate was their baby, but they said Tate meant cheerful and happiness, and it was to honor Melanie, who brought cheer & happiness to them all by reuniting them with Tate).

The article has pictures of today's show that includes the flashback where Julie gives
Doug the watch

He mentions Steve and Kayla, but not Kate.
He's probably still miffed at her for kidnapping him.

I do like that Tate is helping Sophia with her abortion because it's what she wants, and that he's not pressuring her at all.
Julie is bonding with him, what if he's dangerous?
What if he controls her pacemaker? Or once looked at a marijuana?

Why couldn't they have named the kids Bow and Addy? Or yes, use a middle name to honor someone from the murderer's side, not just the crazy person's side.
All the soaps tend to name new babies after established characters.
This is one of the most realistic things on this show. I'm not sure why so many have beef with this, especially since the show generally goes out of their way to create nicknames for common use when discussing the show.

A nice show for Christmas, some good movement in various plots, but I do hate how isolated it is in contrast to how people actually recognize the season. It'd be nice if Hortons stopped by the house all week to put up their ornaments - especially if they're going to keep shortening the ornament scene.

I agree the "Bo II" and "Addie II" ornaments are ... subpar. What are they, Kings of Salem?

Seems like some of their more creative artists may not work for the show anymore and someone else took over designing the ornaments (just a guess). The lettering on the last few ornaments (the new one they did for Steven Olson, Holly's, Xander's, little Bo's and baby Addie's) is kind of sloppy, and overall, the ornaments aren't as nice as the others. Victoria's is slightly better, but the lettering appears to be done by the same person. Little Bo's ornament looks like it says Boi.

Why couldn't they have named the kids Bow and Addy?
Since Little Bo's name is Beauregard Brady Weston, they could've spelled his name Beau. And I don't think we've ever heard that Addie's name was just a nickname for something more formal like Adele or Adeline/Adelina (she was always called just Addie), but it would've been nice if that were the case and Baby Addie was named Adele or Adeline/Adelina instead, like they changed the fact that Julie's given name was Julia all this time (she was never called Julia) and Eli's daughter was named Julia, but they said they'd call her Jules since there was only one Julie in Salem.

The only ornaments with first and middle names are Shawn Douglas, John Thomas (the baby switched with Zack originally), Allie's (Alice Caroline), Johnny's (Johnny Roman) when he was still thought to be Lucas' child, JJ's originally said Jack Patrick, then the next year, they changed it to Jack Jr., Thomas' (Thomas Jack), Arianna Grace and David Abraham. While baby Henry's ornament matches Allie's, they didn't add his middle name to it, like they did on hers.
