40+ minutes of chit chat

118 days til new writers’ stories take over. Heads up, Erin Tillman - Intimacy Coordinator is listed on the credits; Andy Martinez is listed as Rafe/Arnold Double.

Party - Gabi and JJ repeat their conversation from last night. JJ is happy to start the new year with Gabi.

Replay of conversation with Philip and Belle.

Alex and Stephanie replay of conversation from yesterday.

Gabi announces the ball drop and Happy New Year, kisses all around, again. EJ is upset that others get to kiss. Belle wanders over to chat with EJ.

Replay of Joy and Johnny’s conversation with Chanel overhearing, Chanel wants the tea spilled.

The first 4 minutes or so are replays of yesterday’s show. Because we all saw something shiny or slept since watching the masterpiece.

Alex tells Philip and Stephanie to get a room as Philip is checking Stephanie’s tonsils while kissing. Phil reacts as you’d expect.

EJ watches Arnold/Fake Rafe and Jada kissing, EJ makes a lame excuse to pull Arnold/Fake Rafe away from Jada. Jada watches them leave with hopefully a suspicious thought after being called “babycakes.”

Philip and Alex toss words at each other over Alex being alone at the big moment.

Upstairs, Johnny asks about Chanel, and what is she doing upstairs? Chanel demands to know what was going on? This time the open door didn’t stop a person from hearing, Chanel heard everything. Chanel demands the truth. Joy leaves. Johnny tells Chanel it started when he thought that Chanel was cheating on him with Alex. He explains he met Joy at the Small Bar before he saw her on set. Johnny tells all about how he told her that his wife was cheating on him and of making the biggest mistake of my life.

Joy has returned downstairs, grabs a glass of champagne and downs it as Alex watches. Philip barges in to the conversation. He asks Joy how Chloe is doing? Joy responds "like you care, you dumped her (colorful language)." Joy leaves to find another glass of adult beverage. Alex is genuinely concerned. Stephanie in the meantime has been taken over by the Stepford Wives, standing and smiling as if she understands the words people are saying. Stephanie has figured out that Joy doesn’t like Philip. Philip explains that Chloe and Philip figured out it wasn’t working out between them but it was Philly who did the actual breaking up.

JJ wanders over wishes his cuz (Stephanie) a Happy New Year. Gabi and Philip have an oddly confrontational conversation regarding Gabi Chic and company takeovers.

Joy wants to talk to Alex about what happened upstairs, but please take me anywhere but here. They leave. JJ and Gabi leave. Philip and Stephanie leave. Jada and Belle are talking by the fireplace about how generous the offer was from Paulina. The town of Salem is going to be thrilled when the word gets out. Belle says except for EJ. She's concerned about EJ’s response.

EJ yells at Arnold/Fake Rafe and tells him to not sleep with Jada, because Jada doesn’t know that he’s not really Rafe and she can’t give consent. Arnold/Fake Rafe reminds EJ that it didn’t bother him so much when it was Samantha. Well, EJ retorts, it bothers me now. Times have changed and so have views on consent. EJ calls Arnold/Fake Rafe a disgusting pig. All during this conversation, Arnold/Fake Rafe is consuming sliced salami and cheese. Arnold/Fake Rafe tells EJ to watch it. JJ and Gabi walk in on the conversation; I’m going to guess the magic of the open door was used up on Chanel and Johnny, so those two spunky kids heard nothing.

Jada and Belle are dancing in front of the Christmas tree, having a great time laughing and dancing. Jada notices everyone has gone home. Belle concludes they are the only fun ones. Lame says Jada. You want to go home, don’t you, Jada asks Belle. YES, my feet are killing me! (Well, yeah, girl you are wearing Chanel’s shoes.) Both women want to leave but Jada needs to wait for Rafe.

The magic open door syndrome at the DiMansion appears to be on the fritz as Gabi heard part of the conversation and wants to know what it meant? EJ explains how badly Paulina has treated both Rafe and EJ. EJ explains to JJ and Gabi that Paulina fired him earlier today. Great news, Gabi is happy but how does that make it her bother’s fault? Arnold/Fake Rafe tells sis to cool it, he can handle Elvis Jr here. Gabi and JJ leave.

Belle and Jada now enter the room, Jada is ready to go home. EJ is adamant that Jada cannot go home with Rafe.

At Stephanie’s, Philip sits on the couch as Stephanie asks what do you want to do? Watch some TV? Or listen to music, Stephanie will heat up her mother’s famous apple pie with some ice cream. Philip wants her to talk to him. He thinks she’s acting odd.

Alex and Joy are at Joy’s room above the pub. Alex is surprised but happy that Chanel knows all.

Back at the house, Johnny explains that in Joy’s hotel room they kept talking and kept drinking. We get a new flashback. Johnny can’t believe how his wife would go behind his back. (Johnny does a bad drunk.) Johnny says he kissed Joy and well that is it. Chanel wants to hear every last gory detail. Johnny explains he thought that his marriage was over. Johnny tells Chanel that after they kissed, things went a little further, we get to see it too! But Johnny stops before the actual act, he couldn’t continue. He expects Chanel to believe him. Chanel says she does, then she slams Johnny with a great slap.

Alex and Joy talk about how Chanel may or may not react. And Joy and Alex discuss how it’s not like Joy and Johnny actually did the deed.

Philip and Stephanie continue to talk about how “strange” Stephanie is behaving. Philip thinks Stephanie still has a thing for Alex. Stephanie agrees she is not entirely over Alex. It’s scary inside Stephanie’s thinking process.

Jada wants to know why she can’t go home with Arnold/Fake Rafe? EJ covers that Steve Johnson just called, with a big case from Black Patch. Jada asks about the case, and Arnold/Fake Rafe replies you know honey bear, I can’t talk about it, top secret stuff. Jada is amazed that he has to leave now. Jada is upset that they can’t spend the night together, but Arnold/Fake Rafe promises to be home for the wedding. Arnold/Fake Rafe leaves. Now it’s just Belle and EJ downstairs.

JJ and Gabi discuss how there wasn’t enough food at the party, that EJ and Rafe were talking to each other. Gabi says EJ was having a worse time than I was so it was a great party. JJ tells her that the kiss at midnight was a kiss between old friends.

Joy is worried about getting fired for almost sleeping with her husband. She's making this all about her. Alex assures her that it’s not her fault. Alex tells Joy that he won’t hate her. His little brain has taken over.

Johnny can’t believe Chanel slapped him. I thought you believed me, Johnny whimpers. What, that you didn’t go all the way with her, but you were naked on her bed, there are lots of ways to infidelity and betrayal. Johnny admits he totally betrayed Chanel. But please understand nothing like that nothing has ever happened between us.

Chanel doesn’t understand that Johnny didn’t get Joy the job. Johnny explains that he and Joy thought it best that they keep their mouths shut. Chanel is upset that Johnny allowed her to become friends with the woman he almost slept with. The bit of Alex and Joy slept together comes out, Johnny explains that Alex knew the story. He explains the true reason Alex came over. Alex kept it from Chanel because he didn’t want Chanel to get hurt. Johnny makes a fairly good apology, but it’s too soon for Chanel to accept it. She will never forgive him.

JJ and Gabi discuss what they are looking for. Gabi may be interested in a relationship with Ryan Gosling. JJ admits he (Ryan) is dreamy. Gabi smiles and says she doesn’t know where this is going, but she feels the old spark between them. She asks if JJ would like to spend the night? They head eventually up to Gabi’s room, leaving the pizza sitting out.

Back at the entr way of DiMansion, Jada has decided to leave too. EJ says yes, get good night’s sleep, you will need it to bring the new DA up to speed, whoever that poor (colorful language) is. Belle coughs and says EJ, I’ve been trying to tell you all night I’m that I'm the new DA (colorful language).

Philip knows just how Stephanie feels. He and Chloe are totally over but he still worries about her. Philip wants to kiss Stephanie again and help her get over not being over Alex, if she will help him get over not being over Chloe. After the kiss, hot-and-ready-to-trot Stephanie go to the bedroom.

Alex breaks off the kiss and gets ready to leave because Joy’s in a vulnerable spot, he won’t take advantage of her. He goes to leave but Joy wants him to stay, so of course little Alex takes over.

Chanel wants to leave the room. Johnny begs, Chanel tells Johnny that he has lied over and over, and has betrayed her in the worst possible way. Chanel leaves; Johnny is devastated. Happy New Year.

Is it just me, or does the fact Philip framed Brady for his own murder, spent time in an expensive rehabilitation facility, all because of his love of Chloe and hating to see her with anyone else, that the "we couldn't make it work" line seem a little disrespectful of the Chloe/Philip history and fan base?

Thank you, Robin!

I agree about Philip's disrespect of Chloe. It did appear that he would move Heaven and Earth for her, and the way he related it to Stephanie, he changed the intensity of their relationship. Chloe is well rid of him. Stephanie is a fool. She still wants Alex, why is she bothering with Philip?

Looks like that champagne stain disappeared by the time they got to Stephanie's apartment.

Now Alex HAS slept with Joy. Will they be a thing or a fling? According to "da rules," they should both be fired.

I think this will be the end of Body and Soul. Chanel will NOT want to work with Johnny, Alex, nor Joy. Oh, joy! Will we be so lucky?

Chanel was right about types of betrayal. Even though Johnny and Joy did not "go all the way," they did enough to constitute betrayal. Will Chanel want a divorce right away or just a separation? Can she ever forgive Johnny, even though she said she would not?

I also enjoyed Fake Rafe and EJ. But how long will Fake Rafe be "on assignment for Black Patch"?

Jada does look like she is not buying this Rafe, with the snorting and the nicknames, his general behavior. I guess EJ grew a conscience, telling Fake Rafe he cannot sleep with Jada. Will wonders ever cease?

How will EJ deal with Rafe? How long will he leave him in the tunnels?

Glad JJ and Gabi got together. Will this union last at least until Valentine's Day?

It beats the one Brady and Chloe got in 2008. Chloe popped back into Salem for a little R&R while her husband was MIA, with her as the prime suspect. She didn’t bother to mention the ongoing investigation, nor did she disclose Brady becoming an addict. He, in turn, didn’t feel bothered to call from the rehab Victor stashed him in to let everyone know he was alive.

Wow, they had a lot of replay to start.

I am really not liking Philip. I thought he and Stephanie were heading to saying goodbye but then they're heading to bed.

Everyone is sleeping with people they shouldn't be. Alex tried to be good guy and Joy pulled him back.

JJ & Gabi went from that kiss meant nothing to heading to bed too.

Fake Rafe needs to end. Real Rafe cannot still be unconscious. Why haven't we seen him?

So after all this, Johnny & Joy didn't even sleep together. What a waste. Destroyed a couple I like.

Was there different music at the end today?

Thanks, robin.

There was different music at the end.

Good grief. Johnny and Joy kept lying about what they did and it was just kissing. Will Chanel forgive him?

Are we supposed to like EJ because he lied that "Rafe" had a case to make Arnold leave Jada alone?

It was nice JJ and Stephanie remembered they were cousins.

EJ finally found out Belle is the new DA.

How many couples (JJ/Gabi, Stephanie/Philip, Joy/Alex) will be a couple at the end of the month?

It’s too bad that Leo isn’t still doing his column. He’d have found plenty of material if he crashed the awful FiMera party. Among the lowlights included:

Fraudster Shaggy Phil seriously smooching foolish Stephanie;
Lover boy Alex back in action with the useless Joy(less);
Little Johnny groveling to his nasty, unforgiving wife;
JJ getting friendly with Gabi (what would Jenny say?);
EJ telling Fake Rafe that he is “the same disgusting pig” he was in the past.

Compare this to Xander and Sarah presumably spending a cozy, wholesome evening at home with Maggie and Baby Victoria. Take that Xanderphobics.

Chanel is upset that Johnny allowed her to become friends with the woman he almost slept with.
I HATE THIS WITH THE HEAT OF A THOUSAND SUNS.

I like that Johnny sorta-cheated. It gives leeway and angst. But Chanel forced her friendship on Joy despite her AND JOHNNY's protests!!!
"we couldn't make it work" line seem a little disrespectful of the Chloe/Philip history and fan base
More than a little; a lot. And I'm not even in the fan base of that couple, although I liked them better than any other pairing any of them ever had. Lazy producing enabling lazy writing.

I like all of them, so I hope all of them. But we'll see.

I want to see this. So tired of the same 8 characters every day. And am I supposed to be invested in any of these couples who go from first kiss to in bed in the same episode?

Why is everyone so dang eager to take it to the bedroom on this show? Sometimes I forget it's a daytime soap and think I'm watching a cheap adult movie. Yikes.

Seriously, the musical beds is getting ridiculous. And boring.

Chanel should be done with Johnny because he didn't trust her and called her a *bleep*. Also because he's as dumb as a box of bricks taking Joy off to argue during a party and because he has Chanel living in his teen bedroom or something.

This was definitely a party of odd pairings. All of their interactions with each other were weird, too, since most of them aren’t normally friends with each other or outright can’t stand each other.

Not a fan of this version of Philip. He’s too quirky and it seems the writers play into this interpretation by giving him things to say that wouldn’t necessarily reflect the Philip we knew before. I realize every actor brings something different to a character, but this is almost Jekyll & Hyde.

Jada is definitely noticing something off about her man. I hope the Fake Rafe story doesn’t drag on.

Is there one couple on the show in the younger age group that has even the slightest chance of getting to a supercouple status like the vets? It feels like every decent pairing that could be strong and happy has been destroyed. Chanel and Johnny had some major potential and they’ve already been through enough. I don’t blame Chanel for her reaction, but how many things can they throw in their way to keep them from being a happy couple?

Also noticed that Drake Hogestyn is still listed in the credits as John Black. I wonder how much longer that will be?

I really wish they'd brought this actor back as Joseph or Victor (Adrienne and Justin's twins) or both. Philip is a loss.
