Gabi's Living Room: The brain trust (EJ, Chad, and Tony) talk about ousting Jake. Chad is on board. They'll whip up the family's votes. EJ leaves to talk to Jake. Tony doesn't care that EJ is taking charge. Chad reports that Abigail is disinterested in Chad's life and has no immediate plans to return. Chad's focus, thus, will be on Jake.

Jake's Room in Gabi's House: Kate calls Jake to ask about having dinner with him. He can't. She needles him until he caves. (He's working in an office.) Kate hears a noise and plays up her conversation (which is over) with Jake. Gabi has brought her tea. They talk about whom Jake loves. Kate has a long flashback. Back and forth with neither position advancing in any measurable way.

Pub: Roman needles Sami about her decision to leave and her decision to stay in Salem. Lucas emerges during this unnaturally awkward father-daughter talk. Lucas lets Roman know about a broken toilet and refuses dinner, lest he intrude. Roman asks about the tension. Sami claims to be bickering with Lucas because of EJ's return. Lots of recap (Roman has talked to Marlena).

DiMera Offices: Jake and EJ meet. EJ tells Jake that he wants to oust him from DiMera. EJ's grudge is not business, it's personal. Three family members will motion the board to oust Jake.

The Square: Lucas and Rafe talk about Gabi's evicting him. Rafe offers to talk to Gabi, Lucas says it's not needed. Drops the boom, EJ is back in Salem to stay. Rafe is surprised; Lucas says EJ's still the same arrogant swine. (Lucas is funny in these scenes, making fun of Stefano's creepy portrait and imitating EJ's accent.) Rafe still hates him. EJ wanders upon the scene. He offers them a drink as they trade barbs (Lucas has ginger ale). EJ wants Lucas to keep his relationship with Sami limited to their children. Lucas is laughingly about to boil over and maybe spill something when Sami arrives. She and EJ leave; Lucas gets a pensive-one shot as he deflects Rafe's questions about laughing at EJ.

DiMera Office: Jake is calling Shin. Gabi enters and clears the desk. She wants to have a romp on the desk, but he's worried about being fired. Gabi starts counting the shares to see if the brain trust can oust Jake. A befuddled Jake watches as Gabi goes over the family votes, interplayed with Tony and Chad pretending pawns are DiMeras. We also get a handy guide to how DiMera works for the week (3 votes to force a recall, which requires a full board vote to enact). For ousting Jake: EJ, Tony, Chad, Theo; for keeping him: Jake, Shin, Gabi (Stefan's widow); unknown: Steven, Peter, Kate (André's widow); abstaining: Kristen. Jake thinks Kate's love might help him win.

Jake's Room: Chad tells Kate about the ouster attempt, wants her vote. Kate wants to be the one to grind Jake and Gabi to dust, so she won't vote to oust Jake nor shall she abstain. Chad blackmails her, outlining how each vote will play out.

Gabi's Living Room: Tony finishes up a successful call with Theo. Chad enters, Kate is an unknown.

DiMera Office: Gabi calls her "Brother in law" Steven (Benjy's son). (Ed. Note: This is what she says, however Steven was Stefan's nephew.)

Gabi's Living Room: Tony calls Peter. It's been a long time.

Square: Rafe can't stand EJ's arrogance; Lucas can't stand how EJ treats Sami. Rafe wonders if Sami's spoken about how close Lucas and Sami have been.

Gabi's Entryway by the Stairs: EJ threatens Sami to keep her away from her ex husbands. Sami doesn't like being threatened but appears to like EJ being bossy. She goes upstairs. Chad comes out. The votes are iffy. EJ says it must be now or never. He calls Shin. END.

Bonus notes.
Big News Flash: Peter's been out of prison for years and Kristen doesn't hold grudges.

A few minutes into today's episode (after missing the first 15 minutes because of news), and it's official. I don't like new EJ. He has all the smarm, none of the charm, and when he tried to say Jake was unfit because he was an ex-mobster, I had to pick myself off the floor. (Then, did it again when, with a straight face, Tony said Kristen doesn't hold grudges.)

The writers do know that DiMera Enterprises is one speck of kidnap tunnel dust away from being an organized crime syndicate, right? The only reason it's not one is because of Chad. EJ certainly never tried to make it a legitimate business. Jake's mob ties are the thing that make him the most qualified to be a DiMera.

And exactly where does EJ get off hating Rafe? Or grabbing Sami's arm? I'm out. I want EJ to go away. I'm realizing how much of any remembrance or nostalgia for the character I might have had is tied to the allure of James Scott (ex-EJ). I have no attachment to this incarnation and don't want to. 10,000 thumbs down.

And Gabi needs to dump Jake. I'm tired of this whole thing. Today was back into the dumpster with all these DiMera mansion inhabitants. Gabi should evict them all and have some peace working for Titan for as long as that lasts.

The only good things today: Chad telling Kate to grow up and then threatening her with blackmail and with sounding old and desperate. Lucas smugly laughing, knowing he slept with Sami last week.

Gabi has to catch on to Kate. She needs to try to punch her or throw something at her to see how quick she reacts!

Glad Chad told Kate to grow up. But hmmm the smarmy doctor is dead, who will be Kate's next doctor?

Walking up and seeing your 3 husbands chatting is enough to give you a heart attack! Was Lucas really going to tell him?

First thank you Jason for writing this up.

Couple of questions and things popped up today

Doesn't EJ have a couple of outstanding warrants? How does his being declared DEAD and cremated, play into his resurrection and wanting to take control of DiMera?

Didn't Tony throw his support behind Jake just months ago???

Another strike against Salem Hospital for sending Kate home without any training on how to reach for items or how to dress for being in bed.

Please give Chad credit for calling Kate a desperate, pathetic OLD woman. Now someone explain why she continues to dominate storylines and other older actors are simply around to prop the younger set.

I wonder who controls the shares of Megan and Renée?

I wonder if Steven is a pre-teen or a college kid or a thirtysomething now? His age is somewhere between Allie's and Joey's if I'm not mistaken.

It's hard to imagine rounding up all the Dimeralings for a vote every time there's a change. Have the last 20 been unopposed?

In an otherwise perfect* script, there was some ambiguity about the usually-consistent DiMera business model - Johnny and Sydney were deemed "too young" for shares but all the other people named were either the only survivors in their line or one of Stefano's kids. When EJ dies again, will Johnny and Sydney split a share, or will the power balance shift? Or will the writers change how it works again?

Gabi calls her "Brother in law" Steven (Benjy's son).
And what's funny is that earier she correctly identified him as Benjy's son and said Benjy was Jake's brother.

Then later on the phone said to him "Hi Steven, this is your sister-in-law, Gabi".

The writers can't even keep the facts straight within the same episode.

Lucas & Rafe: They were in fine form today, sharing how much they despise EJ. After the creep did appear, I kept hoping Rafe would bring up how he once bounced him all over the Town Square. A reenactment today would have quickly ended EJ's smug manner, ruined his good suit, and put a big smile on Lucas's face.

Theo: if there was any still doubt that Mr. Man Bun was a real weasel after his role in taking Ciara to South Africa,, they were erased today when this troublemaker declared his support for an EJ-inspired uprising against Jake. Mayor Abe better have a long talk with his wayward son about the awfulness all things EJ.

Nicole: Kate and Jake should give her a call about helping fix the DiMera leadership vote. She has a lot of experience in this area dating from her aid to the EJ mayoral campaign's efforts to oust Mayor Abe.

Kate: When she's done with the National Reporter magazine article on sex, she might want to pass the issue on to Xander whose readership of Playpen shows that he has a keen interest in the subject.
LOL, the health inspector will having a good time there, for sure. Kitchen bathroom, front selling area.......ha.
The make-believe bakers will be fine if the health inspector is as blind as members of the police department.

I think it's funny Sweet Bits Bakery is supposed to be moving into the former GabiChic store
Not to mention the square is supposed to help people of color and while you'd never find me in a GabiChic outfit, Gabi is a person of color and should maintain her storefront. At least that's what I think.

About the now important, but never mentioned before DiMera shares, we won't even ask why they've played musical CEOs for year with no mention of needing family support or not.

What about Peter, it's been a few years but doesn't he have kids, do they have shares?

Does Tate have a share via Kristen his gestational mum?

Does John have shares via one of his background parents? They change so frequently that really he should have a share or two.

Thank you for the writeup, Jason.

I don't think it will take me long to watch this epidose. I'm finding any scenes with EJ difficult to watch. TinaY said it best: all the smarm, none of the charm. Besides which, corporate anything, especially bickering, just doesn't interest me.

I like macgyverswife's idea about Gabi tossing something toward Kate to see if she really is blind. Just do something to make this creepy story go away.

Like robin, I was wondering if all the other DiMeras roaming the earth were gifted a share (John implied as much when he was still a DiMera). What a mess.

That said, I thought it was fun to see Gabi in business mode. Her working to protect Jake from Chad's coup would have been a good story that could lead to them developing real feelings. Instead we got "you look like my dead husband/you're a human woman" as their love story.

Thanks, Jason.

I enjoyed Rafe and Lucas until EJ showed up.

Chad's taking a big chance going back to DiMera while Abby is away.

I loved how Gabi used the board showing all the names of Stefano's kids.

What will Kate do since Chad is blackmailing her?

What is in Sami's big purse?
