41 minutes. If you avoid Cat and Chad, it’s a pretty solid show.

Marlena, outside of the pub, hangs up on Shane. She’s trying to get a hold of John. He needs to hear the life changing news from Cat Greene. Kayla and Steve are arriving at the pub during this call.

Cat and Chad talk. Cat’s staying in Salem. Chad is no idea what he's thinking.

Maggie comes in to see Xander staring into space. Xander thinks his “dad” cursed him with the letter.

Philip's on the phone leaving a message for Stephanie about keeping the letter quiet. Kate comes into the room, Philip does Philip.

Replay of Sarah and Stephanie discussing why Stephanie isn’t all right, fight with Philip and all. Sarah had hoped that Xander and Philip would keep each other in check. Stephanie says Philip has no part in running the company. 1000 words later Stephanie spills the letter is a forgery.

Chad and Cat continue to chat outside in January. Repeat of Aaron to stay in Vancouver. He can because he did the mid semester graduation thing. After explaining all of this, Chad says so you are staying here? Where? At the Greene’s home.

Kate can’t believe Stephanie knows, really, with Philip as a son? Kate thinks the Bradys are judgy. This judginess is more than your run-of-the-mill Irish Catholic righteous indignation per Philip. Stephanie is really hurt? Kate thinks he can salvage this.

Sarah is shocked about Philip and the entire letter is forged. Stephanie explains Vivian’s part. She assures Sarah that if she had known the letter was forged, she’d never have supported him.

Xander explains to Maggie that he finally felt heard. Maggie tries to use the Peanuts cartoon of Lucy and Charlie Brown with the football, to try to explain. Xander doesn’t understand. Maggie assures Xander that he can work through this and that the boys can bring Titan into the century. Philip is the worst. Xander wants to get rid of Philip once and for all.

Sarah and Stephanie discuss the letter and sharing information and men lying. Stephanie is glad to have found this out before she got in too deep. Sarah leaves. Stephanie is happy Xander will have the news. Stephanie sits down looks at a picture of Steve and Marlena.

Marlena, Steve and Kayla continue to talk about how to get Shane to give Marlena the information she seeks. Kayla tells her the quickest way is to go through Kimberly. Marlena agrees but she doesn’t think Kimberly can help this time. Steve thinks that Shane was adamant that John remain incommunicado. He wants to know what Cat Greene told her. This is news to Steve too. John was the hero in this story. Both Steve and Kayla are thrilled with the news. It was because of John that Catharina lived and went on to have a family of her own.

Chad gives Cat permission for her to live in Salem, this takes time but that’s what this part of the conversation was about.

Xander is not going to do anything rash, he isn’t going to put the risk of losing Sarah and Victoria ever again. Xander muses if Vivian stole the correct embryo. Maggie assures Xander that Victor loved them both equally. Xander is surprised Maggie could say that with a straight face. Maggie says that Victor had a funny way of showing things. Xander reminds Maggie that Victor relied on him to do his dirty work. Xander brings up Cain and Able who were brothers. Maggie says yes, and let's look at how that turned out. Able ended up dead and Cain was banished from the family. Is that what you want?

Kate and her very distracting coat tries to soothe baby Philip by asking him if he’s lost his favorite toy. She tells him to stop moping about. Kate tells Philip to go stop Stephanie from telling anyone what she heard. Philip thinks that once Xander finds out about the forged letter that he (Philip) will be a dead man for sure this time.

Marlena and Steve are at the pub playing with food and telling each other that they need to stop working so much, for a better work-life balance. Marlena is hiring an assistant. They talk about hanging out with each other. Steve tells Marlena that he is sure that John is missing her as much as she misses him. Marlena tells Steve that she tells her patients to be happy with what they have rather than focus on what they don’t. At least, Marlena says, she’s not having to deal with what Julie is going through.

Maggie is still giving Xander a proper earful. She doesn’t want to lose another member of the family over a petty sibling rivaliry. Xander wonders how he turned out to be the bad guy? Why do you think you are the bad guy? Maggie asks. Well, I’m the one getting the lecture. Maggie uses the mother’s response of you’re the one standing here. You are fantasizing about ending your brother and I’m not 100% sure it’s just a fantasy. Xander replies that Victor left Titan to him in his Last Will and Testament. He can’t believe that it doesn’t trump some bonkers letter. Maggie knows that the partnership won’t be easy. But she orders him to work together. Xander brings up how well Maggie and Alex learned to work together. Maggie is taken aback.

Stephanie listens to Philip’s voicemail and she DELETES it, she DELETES it. She is not Steve and Kayla’s daughter. After she deletes it, Kayla walks in.

Rehashing between Kate and Philip, when Sarah walks in on their conversation.

More Cat and Chad talk about who knows. Cat does her odd body movement twitching. She tells of a lead on a job with Marlena. Chad stares off into space.

Steve and Marlana talk. Marlena got an order of strawberries and whipped cream on Christmas Day. Steve has no idea where or what John is doing for the ISA. Marlena feels that John is slipping further and further away.

Stephanie tells Kayla that she and Philip are over, they broke up. Kayla asks what happened? Stephanie tells her mom that Philip hasn’t changed.

Philip wants to know what Sarah knows? Both Kate and Philip are playing dumb. Kate suggests that Sarah doesn’t tell Xander, because once Xander knows, Philip’s head will be on a spike.

Stephanie won’t tell Kayla why they broke up. Kayla wonders since they just got together, it will make it easier to break up, because you know they haven’t been together for so long.

Kate tries the if we don’t tell Xander, then he won’t kill Philip. Kate supports Philip. Philip is just standing there while the women fight over him. Philip wonders why Sarah didn’t go straight home and tell Xander? Sarah wanted answers. Kate says this is the same thing as Gwen and Kristen and what they did to Sarah. Sarah thinks this is nothing like being drugged and kidnapped and being left on an island. Sarah is trying to talk to Philip but helicopter mummy won’t let him speak as she tries to contain this mess, making sure everyone in a 10-block radius hears that this was Vivian’s idea.

Kate brings up Xander’s misdeeds. She pets Philip in that weird jacket and demands that Philip be allowed to talk. All Philip has ever wanted to do was to make his father proud of him. Not even when he served in the military. Philip was never able to prove to his father that he was worthy of carrying on the family legacy. If Sarah tells Xander he will lose everything, his job, his freedom, perhaps even his sanity.

Chad didn’t know Marlena was looking for an assistant. More weird body movements from Cat. Chad tells Cat that Marlena is the least judgmental person in Salem. Marlena believes in second chances.

Xander tells Maggie that he didn’t mean it, his jab at Maggie running Titan with Alex. Maggie says yes you did. Maggie tells Xander to break the curse. Xander thinks Maggie is asking a lot but he does promise to try to get along with Philip. Maggie joins Victoria in bedtime. Xander believes Philip won’t allow him to keep that promise.

More Cat and Chad chit chatting about how this wasn’t an awkward conversation. Cat leaves.

Steve and Marlena talk about how hard it is to be apart. Marlena thanks Steve for the company for dinner, she needed that. Steve says French fries and friendship always does the trick, doesn’t it? Marlena says and, on that note, I’m leaving, with a giggle. Steve tells her to hang in there because John will be home for his Doc before she knows it. Steve and Kayla will be there for her. Steve watches her leave, pulls out his phone and calls Shane; he leaves a message.

Stephanie is going to focus on her career. Ever since she’s arrived in Salem she’s been in one failed relationship after the other. Kayla thinks she shouldn’t give up on love. Kayla suggests Marlena’s latest therapy. Immersion in rom-coms, ice cream and cookies. Stephanie is all for that. Kayla and Stephanie head out.

Kate was wondering if Philip was ever going to speak up for himself? Philip tells her she was doing such a bang-up job he didn’t want to slow her momentum. Philip loved hearing her talk glowingly about him.

Sarah comes home, Xander is happy to see her. He tells Sarah that her mom just left and that he had made a promise to Maggie to try to share his toys with Philip. Sarah doesn’t tell Xander what Stephanie said. They hug.

Good show. Set up a bunch of upcoming stories:

Steve and Marlena looking for John. We know that won't end well.

Chad not hating that Cat is staying in town. Love story on the horizon.

Stephanie's love life going south, AGAIN.

Kate fretting about Roman finding out.

In my opinion a big debacle of a story coming up: Sarah not telling Xander about the Philip lie.

I hope they don't drag out the Titan Co-CEO mess.

My opinions, not spoilers:

Sarah and Xander will surely work out things.

Not sure what Roman's response to Kate's deception will be. She will be facing jail time. Justin can't defend any of them due to conflict of interest.

I am betting Philip will play mental illness card.

Vivian has no defense, nor does Kate. Plea bargains are likely

Good show today to start the week.

Maggie and Xander were wonderful and it makes sense he'd try to make things work for her sake.

Stephanie talking about her failed relationships was all we've been saying. And I loved she told Sarah the truth.

Philip's pleas to Sarah hit the right notes. He and Xander share so much of the same trauma inflicted by Victor. But if she keeps the secret what happens to her marriage when Xander finds out? Sarah needs Philip to keep Xander from breaking the law at work and he will do her bidding now.

And because she wants Xander to bond with his brother and have a family.

Sarah loves two Xanders. The one who is a perfect husband and father and the bad boy she fell for. She needs somebody to keep him honest at work when she can't monitor what he's doing. She knows him so well and doesn't want him to do something stupid. Remember their wedding vows. He said he would likely mess up repeatedly and she promised not to bail if he did. She is finding a creative solution here, much like she did with the Brady situation. It is going to be an interesting twist with her lying to him for once.

Pub scenes were a bit dull until the end. What does Steve know?

Cat and Chad felt disjointed. I don't hate them but they were not needed today.

Nice job, Robin, thank you.

I think the actress is choosing to play Cat somewhat "awkward and hesitant" on purpose, but not sure. I don't recall her acting this way in other performances. Still enjoying her and laughing at how easily people in Salem get jobs. Does she even have an administrative background? It is obvious that she and Chad have chemistry, but they both know it would create a lot of issues for everyone. Still, I predict they might get together at some point.

Cat does NOT need Chad's permission to live in Salem. She already did, and she is doing what is best and most stable for Felicity.

Sarah is in a bad situation. Had Xander not told her he was willing to give Philip a chance, would she have told him about the forgery? If he ever finds out that she knew and didn't tell him, get out of the way. But if she did tell him, he would go over to Titan and hurt him in "old Xander" fashion. No matter how much Xander has progressed with his anger and checking it before taking action, "old Xander" is still in there, and it won't take much to bring him out again.

I thought Stephanie was going to tell Kayla. Maybe just not yet but eventually.

Steve sounded like he was at the end of his rope with Shane and the secrecy with John. Glad that his shoulder is coming in handy for Marlena to lean on. Does Steve really not know anything, or he does know but just can't tell Marlena?

Marlena says, she’s not having to deal with what Julie is going through.
The writers want to torture us.

This might work if there wasn't such a staggering delay and we were seeing this before Drake Hogestyn (John) passed.
Are Cat's body twitching an acting choice or a medical condition? If the latter, I won't mention the again, but if an acting choice, I'll continue to point them out
I wonder the same thing. I haven't seen her in other things but it sticks out in a bad way to me.
Sarah loves two Xanders
You really hit the nail on the head, and I hope the story works the way you suggest because it makes logical sense and gives each character a rooting characteristic and an Achilles heel.

Stephanie deleted the voicemail! But, I have to delete mine twice. Let's hope DUH PLOT calls for that in the future.

Sounds like they are getting ready to have the characters deal with the demise of John Black??? I had heard. tho, that it would not occur until May, so PERHAPS John is held prisoner ???? (Drake Hogestyn/John passed last year in September...And this shows how hard to deal with some things when you film so FAR in advance. Maybe they will have John being held prisoner, or something???

So much foreboding in this episode. Several references about the possibility of Philip's demise at the hands of Xander. Also, Marlena's comment about not having to deal with what Julie is dealing with. I don't know what the plans are for the Philip character, but if he dies Xander will surely be accused.

I really hope the new showrunners handle the fallout from the forged letter because I can’t stand the idea of a hypocritical Xander dragging Sarah for months over her lie.
From what I hear it goes way beyond May. Xander might be a hypocrite but he has kept his wedding vows to be utterly honest with her. I think he will be hurt and angry, Sarah will be stubborn and defensive, and there will be an extended separation. But I understand both sides to this which is all I want from a story

I hate Sarah lying. Either you love and trust this man or you don't. I'm getting tired of drama ginned up by characters who hide information for no reason from their spouse. (Looking at Johnny DiMera, who hid not cheating on his wife.) She knows how much it meant to Xander to have Victor trust him. She has to tell him, and it's now clear that she won't, putting her in league with his enemies. Where's Gwen? She wouldn't do that to him. Hate this.
