It's New Year's Day in Salem.

DiDungeon - Rafe is tied up. There is construction equipment visible. His phone rings. (It's Jada.) He can't reach it. He's gagged as well. Rafe manages to connect the call but can only make muffled noises.

DiMansion/Townhouse - Belle and EJ have a snipe call. EJ feels there was a conspiracy against him. He can't do anything to Jada or Paulina. He looks toward the secret door (which has a "Do Not Enter" sign on it).

Salem Inn, Leo's Room - Leo laments his life. He gets a notification and reads Lady Whistleblower's new column.

A large bedroom - Javi is in a towel and gets a notification about the column.

DiMansion/Square - Johnny calls Chanel, who has nothing to say to him. She spots Joy and trauma dumps on her. Joy says Johnny stopped before it got too heavy because he loves Chanel. Can Chanel forgive him? Chanel overreacts to this and engages in absolutely no self-reflection. Joy was afraid of losing her job and her mom's wrath. Chanel keeps circling back to the friend idiocy. She learns about EJ's offer which Joy wishes she had taken. Chanel, despite her own checkered past and lack of work ethic, tells Joy she's not a good person.

Body & Soul offices - Leo is drinking coffee. Johnny enters. Leo has inspiration for a new story which he runs past Johnny. It involves Chanel and Joy so Johnny says it won't work. Leo wonders how this could have happened. Leo hears Johnny's sad tale and doesn't think it should count as cheating. Johnny lied. The upshot is they both falsely accused a lover and that's why these scenes are happening. Johnny suggests Leo apologize.

Townhouse - Marlena comes in fresh from a fancy new workout with her trainer. She was in bed and didn't watch the ball drop. Belle tells her about the party at DiMansion and her job as DA. Marlena's glad that Belle will be around but wonders about EJ (excuse me while I toss things at the TV). There's some chatter about this but who cares. There's a knock at the door and it's Shawn-D who has a stack of files for her, mostly cases EJ refused to prosecute. They have a friendly chat. Marlena tells him he's always welcome as he leaves. Belle vows to Marlena she won't get romantically involved with EJ again.

DiDungeon - EJ intercepts the call and then berates Rafe for overhearing Arnold's crimes. He has brought breakfast. He removes Rafe's gag. Rafe screams into the void like we all do watching this show. EJ berates Rafe for breaking into his house which is how he ended up in this mess. EJ tells Rafe that Jada's not looking for him but also that EJ separated Feniger from Jada. He has a plan. Rafe wants them to work together to bring down Feniger.

Hernandez House Kitchen - Javi enters and talks to Jada. He's on his way to the gym. She's worried about Rafe. She relays the call attempt and tries again, but it goes straight to voicemail. They move to wedding plans, which is happening at the end of the month. Javi wants to throw a big party for his cousin's 4th wedding. This leads to his own set of lamentations. (News Flash: Kerry's last name is "Youmans".) He doesn't feel Kerry is the one. He talks a lot about Leo.

DiDungeon - Rafe is a man of his word and won't say a thing. EJ seems to consider this for a moment but he can't trust or control Feniger. They recap his job loss at Jada's hands, and then EJ feeds Rafe like a baby.

BS Office - Chanel has something to say to Johnny. She quits.

Square - Leo comes over to Joy and tells her she has some new pages. He had to rewrite Joy's scenes that involved Chanel. Leo wishes that they could harness the animus between the women for the show. Joy wonders if it will be spoiled, assumes it will be, stalks off. Javi appears as Leo is leaving. Soap stares.

DiMansion Living Room Area - EJ sends a text to Jada from Rafe's phone. "Sweetheart, so sorry about earlier. Couldn't talk. Super busy with this case. Don't worry about me. I'll be in touch soon. XOXO". That should hold for a while, he muses.

Police Station - Shawn-D enters as Jada receives her text. She has a weird feeling about the text. END
 
I find it hard to believe a woman who once suggested and enthusiastically participated in a threesome is this uptight over some non-sexual non-monogamy. I can see Chanel being mad about the deception and making Johnny suffer a while, but she's pearl clutching a LOT over, ultimately, a lesser infraction where he came to his senses. Calling Joy a terrible person? Quitting? She's acting like someone who holds total and complete monogamy as the core of an entire relationship, and that doesn't make sense.
 
I agree what Johnny did was bad and not being truthful about it, but he did stop. He stopped because he loved his wife even though at that time he thought she'd slept with Alex. I like them so I don't want them to split up. Her participating in 3 way should make her more open minded.
 
Plus, she had the affair with the married college professor before she even came to Salem. Although I can't remember at the moment (without looking it up) if she knew he was married.

OK, I double checked and Chanel knew the professor was married and in a "cold, loveless marriage."
 
Thanks for the summary. This episode was a big nothing burger. Chanel is definitely being a hypocrite. Yes, Joy and Johnny were wrong for what they did and lying about it. I would consider it cheating, but not the worst form, of course. She has every right to be upset.

I wish the soap would show something realistic, like Chanel and Johnny deciding to go to couples' counseling and work on their marriage. I do like them together, and none of this would've happened if not for the stupid B&S, which is the true issue.

The rest of the stuff today was dull filler. Not even worth commenting on.

Any takers on a Valentine wedding for these two? Double wedding with Jada and Rafe????

I'm struggling to watch the show after reading the summary. Such a waste of everyone's time.
 
Wow, just wow. I agree with all the posts. Chanel was very over the top and very much a hypocrite. I want someone to show Joy some kind of article talking about what Chanel *actually* did and not what Joy "almost" did. The only terrible person today was Chanel.

I like Chanel and Johnny together and hope the writers fix this soon (but I have very little faith in them so I won't hold my breath, but I'm still gonna hope for it).

EJ really is enjoying putting Rafe in this position. Rafe should spit up the eggs on EJ's tailored suit.

I wonder if Jada is picking up on unusual text language. I don't know if Rafe addresses her as "sweetheart" or uses xoxoxo. She was wondering about him before, now she is even more curious about his odd behavior.

Agree about Chanel being on her high horse when she is guilty of more questionable behavior.

I like Joy and think she is a decent person with questionable judgment sometimes. Didn't Nancy once say that she made bad decisions regarding men? Please don't let her take the money and run.

The only good thing might come out of this is the end of Body & Soul. We can hope, can't we? The contracts need to be ripped up.

I don't think that Jada believes that Javi wants nothing to do with Leo. He just won't admit it, but his big puppy eyes say otherwise.

Kerry was never "the one." He is "at this moment."

I don't even think Kerry is savvy enough to be the fake Lady Whistleblower, but I could certainly be wrong.

She also slept with a married man when she was an adult (there was a power imbalance sure but she willingly participated). Her motivation makes no sense. I agree she should be steamed about the intent a little and the lies a lot. They have to stop going to the friend well.

Also, it wasn't really Joy's secret to tell. It was between him and his wife. She's mad at Joy for Johnny's lie.

Did she bug his computer? This would be a twist although she'd know him well enough to guess his "password" and access his files. However, it doesn't work unless she's actively listening to him since some stories he'd never put in his computer (unless they forget that plot point).
