The writers chose not to go into the background of the twins' conception at that time. Just like we only now found out how everybody kept it quiet with Holly that Eric was the drunk driver who killed Daniel.

Maybe when Roman tells Johnny that EJ raped Sami, we'll find out what the twins were told about why they have different fathers.

Yep, they glossed over it so re-Ron could pretend it wasn't a huge issue, and so he could do his "twins in love with a bisexual woman" story which worked out so well.

I'm glad it's finally being addressed, since the show was determined to sweep it under the carpet to make Sami and EJ the "golden couple" until James Scott (ex-EJ) decided to leave the show in 2014.
