My mind fades out when I look at all those calculations. I don't even know what gas costs around me. At the one gas station in my tiny community the owner pumps my gas and sends me a bill at the end of the month. One of the many reasons I love living here.
I don't spend so much on gas anymore and yesterday I found out the reason why. While I was in town I went to get my oil changed, as it had been a little over a year. I've gone to the same place for years, a small place in my Walmart town. The guy who runs it was a bit intimidating to me when I first started going there. He's a big man, head shaved, looks like someone you'd expect to see on a motorcycle, if not in a wrestling ring. He used to be a bail bondsman. I don't know if he still is or not. Inside the tiny business area of his business he keeps three extremely large dogs. I can't think what kind they are but they look like they could eat you alive if they wanted to. This situation proved how deceiving appearances can be. The man is so very kind and respectful. He's gone out of his way to do things for me that aren't exactly associated with oil changes. (One time he cleaned a rat's nest out of my a/c system, when I couldn't get any mechanics to do it). Also, those dogs are super friendly. The scariest thing about them is that they get so excited when someone comes in, I'm afraid they will bump into me and knock me over as they bustle around trying to greet me!
But to get to the point of the story, the man went out and looked at the sticker on my car, from my last oil change. He came back inside and told me I still had 2400 miles left before needing my oil changed! That seemed hard to believe but even though it's a long way for me to go to town, I really don't go all that frequently anymore. I can tell it by my gas bill as well. Sometimes I only have one fill up in a month. That will go up when we start feeding cows for the winter. My work truck is a gas guzzler.
Robin, it's good seeing you out being your busy self again.
Wilde Woman, "brush fires in Brooklyn." Now there's an image I had never imagined.
Squirrel, I hope you aren't burnt out on retirement before it even gets there!
Poirot, I know from experience a lot can be missed when keeping the blinds closed.
Sexton, I'm glad the hurricane will be steered away from you but please tell it not to go to Florida. My son's family will be there before too long.
Kat, wishing you happy studies. I hope you are learning a lot.
I hope you people in Canada don't have to buy a lot of gas either. Your prices sound dreadful, even though I can't do the comparisons.
I enjoyed the lunch. It was just sandwiches but the fun part was getting to visit with people in the middle of the week. Another fun thing happened when I started out to go to the church. As I started down my driveway two turtles appeared in the middle of the road. One big one and one little one. When they saw my car they stopped and weren't about to move. There wasn't room to drive around them on either side or to straddle them. Finally I got out of the car and walked up behind them shouting, "Shoo." They ran as fast as their legs could carry them. First time I'd ever tried to herd turtles!
