Some here have been watching Days a long time, some are recent......but we all wonder where a story is going at times. And are curious as to what went on behind the scenes that resulted in a big change. An actor leaves.......and was it end of contract, actor fired, or just quit, a decision to change storyline???? Yes, I know, a storyline ends sooner than expected, wasn't working out, actor wants out, ....so many reasons, and not always explained to our satisfaction.

So we can only guess about some.....and thus.......my thoughts.........

Both Bo and Hope wanted out, so were written off the show.....unhappy with what was being written for them. Days eventually changes writers, & both actors decide to return. Writers cannot seem to think of good story for Steve & Kayla, who have stayed on board, but we don't see often. Same for Jack & Jennifer. And then the young crowd seems to not be getting good writing, story, etc. Thus the public is unable to grow attached, want more.

But time passes. Our favs got older, their lives change. Some have passed away, some moved away (from the filming area), some just want to enjoy family, friends, live like we all do. So Days is not the same as it was back in the 60s, 70s, etc. Budgets changed, no more exciting adventures, the Cordays (Betty & Ted who created Days) are gone, their son Ken took over. Albert Alarr who took control at one point, and caused problems finally left, and time has marched on.

Tom & Alice Horton, Shawn & Caroline Brady are gone, but their family and legacy lives on. I am so glad to see Sean return, and agree to join the police force again. Am happy Steve is with Black Patch, with his experience, brains and knowhow. I am thankful both Jack & Jen agree to make sporadic appearances. Am so hopeful the writers remember and use the past of the remaining old timers and joining them to the "new guys".

Blessings to all.

I no longer watch since I don't have Peacock and won't pay for these stories, given all the changes, but still read the recaps daily, so thank you for keeping this site going. I agree that there has been so much disruption and rogue writers allowed free rein for too long, that it is hard to be hopeful for the future.

I think the biggest challenge for us as viewers is that darn schedule where we have to wait for many months for them to "fix" things that don't work. There is a limit to our patience. Many of us remember watching the show with our mothers or grandmothers. Even my dad would pretend not to watch, but would ask about Doug and Julie.

I do like that some of the people come back occasionally, like Jack and Jen-of-the-day, but what I like about that is that they are inserted into the family story - they are NOT the story, as was the case whenever Sami returned. I don't understand why some characters are still there since they really aren't likable or serve any purpose (Ava) or why new characters are introduced, but aren't written well enough to give the viewers a chance to get to know them (the Greene family) or why EVERY story ends up being controlled by the ever-escaping Clyde.

I agree about the schedule. They really need to give the cast a month off.......or at least 3 weeks, and stop filming so far ahead. No one benefits from the pace they have set. NBC itself caused the problems, forcing the show runners to cope and deal as best they could, and obviously, decisions were made that did not work. There are now new people at the helm, but...5 more months are already filmed.....which doesn't help, and shows how filming so far in advance is a detriment.

I swear there was something in an interview one time, about how due to union contracts, they're unable to just stop taping for periods of time when it's not a pre-scheduled break. Unfortunately, Days is screwed by their own efficiency now, which is a shame.

I don't know about GH, but you can literally see Y&R and B&B change directions in the middle of storylines when they're not working due only being 4-6 weeks ahead in taping. Think of all the storylines Days could've changed/fixed, like the ridiculous Konstantin mess, all this Body and Soul garbage, Bo being in an off-screen coma for nearly 2 years and having Shawn-D moping around out of guilt, etc.
