Twitter Week of 9/21

She was murdered by the Salem Strangler (Jake Kositchek) who thought she was Marlena.

It was a huge storyline because Samantha had been off the show for awhile. Viewers thought Marlena was dead and went nuts. There were groups who protested outside the studio gates, the phone lines were flooded with outraged fans, etc. Management even had Deidre Hall (Marlena) answer some of the calls from upset fans to tell them to keep watching, as there was a twist. Then the viewers and Salemites found out it was Samantha who had been killed.

Marlena went away for a few days (to the old lake house she and Don had) and Samantha was going to be in town for the weekend. Marlena left her apartment key for Samantha so she could stay in Marlena's apartment. Jake broke in and killed Samantha.

Contrary to popular belief, that was always the planned storyline. There are many who think the storyline was hastily rewritten to have the murder victim be Samantha instead of Marlena after the viewers went crazy. But Samantha died on Wednesday or Thursday and Marlena was revealed to be alive on a Monday or Tuesday the following week.

Thanks Just Samantha for clearing that up. I'm kind of shocked with all the returns from the dead this show is known for that Samantha has stayed gone all these years. For example her impersonating Marlena would have made a better storyline solution than the mess that was "New Salem" concerning the infamous murder spree last decade. Perhaps Deidre Hall (Marlena) didn't like playing two characters at once?

Deidre Hall (Marlena) didn't play two characters at once. She has a real life identical twin sister, Andrea Hall, who played Samantha (and later, Hattie Adams).

My profile picture is Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Andrea Hall (Samantha).

Deidre and Andrea Hall were the first real-life identical twins to play identical twins on a soap opera.

Even in the 1980s that would have been a tight re-write. Conspiracists need a conspiracy, I guess. :)

But am curious why Jen Lilley (Jeannie T) and Lauren Koslow (Kate) were tagged in this too.
Well we got part of our answer today - Jen Lilley (Jeannie Theresa) was in his first scene. I'm hoping he somehow gets involved in the Basic Black story. (Note: PLEASE STAY OUT OF KATE'S BED!!!)
