We all remember different things from the past, some are good, we treasure, some not so good, and we wish we could forget, but don't. LOL. Perhaps you'd like to share a memory.
My mom was very strict, don't know why she kept such a tight rein on my sis and I but she did. She was a nurse, worked nights (parents divorced) so slept during day, and we were not allowed outside to play unless she was awake......or out grocery shopping. Ahh, so when I say I was a klutz when it came to playing games........there was a reason. LOL. Nope, no volley ball, basketball, baseball, truly lousy at them all.
We lived on 3rd floor apartment, with a huge empty lot next to it. All the kids played there, was really great. On the other side of the lot was a boy named Tom, and if I was out, and the kids wanted to play something, Tommy never failed to pick me for his team. He was such a nice, caring person. But as kids, we played all kinds of games, relivio, hide and seek, and yes, hop scotch, jump rope, bouncing the ball as you lifted your leg over it, back and forth, reciting something or other rhyme......
Am getting around to being surprised my kids did not do any of those things at all. I guess their generation had there own........but one daughter was cheerleader, the other in drum & bugle corp., yep my boys did sports. School had changed a lot. LOL.
But here, living up north. back a few years ago, someone got the idea of having a neighborhood reunion, of my old Illinois neighborhood, asked those they knew for contacts and we got to see friends and neighbors from "the old days.Vito told a tale of vacationing up here, and how he had recently rescued a fisherman whose boat motor had died......and towed the guy and boat back to where he was staying. And yes, it was my place,
I had watched our guest being towed in.......Turns out Vito had been vacationing up here for years, yes, on my lake, another resort of course. And so, later on, I hear from Vito. His cousin lives near Cookie, in same suburb as Cookie & Tommy (who don't realize it. He wants to contact Cookie, to help him get back in touch with best friend Tommy. It all works out, the boys(now men) are reunited, and get over whatever problem had separated them. Next time I drove down to Il. we all had lunch, me & Cookie and the guys. Am so glad those fellows were able to connect again.
Sadly, today, they, along with my bf, Cookie, have passed. (by the way, Tommy did play baseball for major league teams, but it was in their minor league teams. Just was so happy to connect with very, old friends.
