Wow. Felt like he'd go on forever. He was the first president I was aware of here in Canada, as my teacher told us about Amy, his little girl in the White House who was our age.
Rest in peace. A kind man. Best thing anybody can be.
Here's a look back, through photos, at the inspirational life of 39th U.S. President Jimmy Carter, encapsulating his beloved birthplace of Plains, Ga., his rise to the White House, his presidential years and his humanitarian life post-White House.
The service at the Capitol yesterday was beautiful.
Although, there was a young woman (granddaughter/great granddaughter/niece?) standing so that she was highly visible (mainly from her neck to knees) behind everybody who spoke at the podium. She kept playing with the ring on her finger, pulling up her tights (under her short dress), fussing with her with her hair, and jiggling her feet in her shoes. A few times when she was yanking at her tights (by reaching under her skirt), whoever was directing the camera shots seemed to quickly cut to a different angle so that if Little Miss Fidget pulled up her skirt too high, her kibbles and bits wouldn't be airing live around the world. Someone should've discreetly pulled her out of the camera angle.
There were several shots of a little boy (probably a great-grandson or maybe great-great grandson) who was the spitting image of Jimmy Carter. Cute little one.
A reporter on NBC made an interesting comment after seeing the five remaining presidents sitting together at Jimmy Carter's funeral. The next time they'll all be together like that, one of them will be missing, since it'll probably be at the next presidential funeral. I'm missing seeing Michelle Obama sitting next to George Bush (she wasn't there). She said they're seat buddies for formal events. It's nice when politicians can set aside differences to be friendly with each other.
It was lovely to see President Ford's son, Steven Ford, speaking at the funeral. Steven was an actor who was on Y&R from 1981-1987 and did a handful of episodes in 2002-2003.
