There are different kinds of smarts, and Nick was far more intelligent in most areas. Sami was definitely superior when it came to getting her own way about something.

And yes, Nick had way more education, at which he excelled, but Sami learned a great deal just by living life.

Nick was a genius, but he was a fool. He targeted Will and Sonny which made him an enemy of Sami and Kate. It was actually Nick vs. Will/Sonny. Kate and Sami for over 20 years have wreaked havoc in Salem and they are both still standing.
