Post after the summary has a link with the poem said at the memorial.

40 minutes

Replay of the black and white scene with Doug saying goodbye to Bill and that he's going to Salem.

Julie and Steven sit on the bed. Steven is glad Julie has faith in him. She reminds him how Doug transformed. It's not how you start, but how you finish. Julie goes on how Doug came to Salem and met her family. He was determined to change his life. She says Doug had a kind heart. Julie loves Steven and glad he's there. Steven plans to be at the memorial since it's hard on her as she lost the love of her life. He's there for her now and always. Julie says the same to him.

Replay of Marie talking to Maggie about not having to see Liz again in Horton Town Square. Liz comes up and says today isn't your lucky day, then says hello to Maggie. She tells Marie that she's not happy to see her. Marie says no especially in the square named after her parents. Liz says she loved Tom and Alice, but she didn't like her. Maggie rolls her eyes.

Julie tells Steven she's glad he climbed through the bedroom window, then says to freshen up and meet her downstairs. She'll introduce him to his family.

Replay of Ciara opening time capsule in the living room, while Shawn, Jen and Lucas look on. Ciara can't wait to look inside.

Liz tells Marie it would be absurd to hold a grudge about Neil after all these years. Marie mentions Liz shooting her again. Liz says that was years ago, by accident. She thought Marie was an intruder. Marie says Liz was the intruder, sleeping with her husband in our bed (oh my). Liz says she went to prison. Maggie screams enough and people in the square look at her.

Belle's in townhouse living room and wipes away a tear. Marlena asks if she's ok? Belle says she was listening to "Friends and Lovers" that Liz sang. It was a song she and Shawn listened to. It's bringing up emotions since she'll be seeing him today. Marlena reassures her it was ok not to tell him she was coming. Belle's going to let him have his time with family.

Ciara, Shawn, Jen and Lucas go through the capsule. They find letters Tom and Alice wrote to each other. Lucas finds the deed to the Horton cabin. Jen finds a framed lock of baby hair from Aunt Marie. Ciara holds up baby shoes that Grandma Addie and Great Uncle Tommy wore. Julie walks in. She's excited to see Ciara, Shawn Douglas and Lucas. They all hug. Ciara says she's proud to be Doug's granddaughter. Steven walks into room. Julie introduces him as her long lost baby brother, Steven.

Eli and Lani are at Paulina and Abe's apartment. Lani's talking to Chanel on phone about the twins. She hangs up and tells Eli the twins are on their best behavior. Eli's grateful Chanel and Johnny are watching the twins so he can spend time with Julie. Lani is happy they're so close since he met her as an adult. Eli wants her surrounded by family after losing the love of her life.

Ciara says Steven Olsen, and then says she's Ciara Alice. Steven says she looks like her mother. Ciara talks to Julie about Hope. Julie talked to her on the phone last night and agrees it's more important she be with Bo right now. Then Julie introduces Shawn. Steven says Shawn Douglas and he's heard a lot about him. They shake hands. Julie introduces Jen as Bill's little girl. Steven remembers her, Jennifer Rose. Jen and Steven hug. Steven asks if Lucas her husband? Jen says he's her brother. Steven heard Bill had another son. They shake hands.

Steven points to the items on the end table and asks what it is? Julie's excited when she finds out capsule was opened. She calls Ciara her "mother's daughter". They start looking at everything. Julie says "It is the days of our lives in a box". She pulls out a jewelry box. Inside is a diamond necklace. Julie says it's her grandmother's necklace. Her mom (Addie) gave it to Alice as a birthday gift. Julie says Alice thought it was too regal for Salem. She wants to go through everything with everyone, but says it's time to go to St Luke's. They need to honor her husband and say goodbye. Everything is put back in the capsule. They leave. Steven is the last one out the door. He looks back at the capsule and the necklace.

Maggie talks to Liz and Marie to let things go. Maggie wants them to remember they're celebrating the life of Doug, a man they all admired and respected. She wants to know if they can do that? Liz and Marie look at each other. They both agree they can. Maggie is happy and tells them to call a truce. Liz says she'll let go of grievances if Marie will. Marie says she will. They shake hands and say they will do it for Doug. Belle and Marlena come up. Marlena is surprised to see Marie. She introduces them to Belle. Belle tells Liz she's a big fan of her music. As Belle and Marlena walk off, Marlena talks to Liz about getting along with Marie. Liz replies I wouldn't go that far.

Outside St Luke's, everyone is gathered for the memorial. Steve, Kayla, Paulina, Abe, Lani, Eli, Marlena, Ciara, Maggie, Jack, Jen, Marie, Lucas and Roman. Shawn walks over to Belle. Belle just flew in from Hong Kong. She hopes it's ok she's there. Shawn says it's fine. Marlena goes to Julie when she walks in with Steven. Julie walks over to the red roses. She introduces Steven to everyone as her brother. Julie thanks them for coming. Marlena tells Julie the priest is ready when she is. Everyone goes to a seat while Julie looks at Doug's picture.

The priest welcomes everyone as they sit down. Julie sits between Marlena and Maggie. The priest says he's known Doug and he's loved by so many. He says Doug was kind and generous. The priest calls Shawn to read scripture.

Shawn reads. John 14:2-3 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

Ciara comes up and reads the poem "Gone From My Sight" by Henry Van Dyke. She says it's one of Doug's favorite poems. Julie is sad.

The priest says Julie, Doug's beloved wife, will give the eulogy. Eli and Shawn walk Julie to the podium. Julie talks for almost 10 minutes.

Julie says Doug had the look of love and made the world shine with it. She says Doug's real name Brent Douglas. He was raised in an orphanage and left at age 14. He joined Navy during WWII and became a pilot. He loved how to fly. He raised Hope, opened the club Doug's Place, was mayor of Salem, captain of her heart. She mentions the songs he wrote. She says Doug had kindness. The dictionary says kind means gentle and generous. Julie says again the look of love that transcends time and lifts us all into the light. When Julie is done, she sits back down.

The priest says a prayer and introduces Liz. She will lead us in one of his favorite songs. Liz has everyone sing "Always". Several flashbacks are shown with Doug and Julie during the singing. After the song, Julie looks at Doug's picture and smiles.

After the memorial, Julie hugs Aunt Marie. Liz has Julie notice her. She says Doug was the best. Marie agrees. They both walk away. Abe and Paulina come up. Then Steve and Kayla. Julie says she lost the love of her life, but she feels all the love around her. Jen reminds Julie it's time to go to the cemetery. Everyone walks away and Julie is left standing by Doug's picture. She holds on to it and finally walks away.

Belle and Marlena arrive back home. Marlena talks about Julie's eulogy. She says Doug was legend, then asks Belle about Shawn. She says she wanted to give him space. Marlena leaves Belle to contact Shane. She wants to talk to John about Doug's death. Belle sits on the couch. There's a knock on the door. It's Shawn.

Abe and Paulina, at their apartment, discuss Doug and the memorial service. Lani and Eli come out from the back. The twins are sleeping after Eli sang a song Doug would sing to him. They have glasses of champagne and make a toast to Doug.

Steve, Kayla, Jack, and Roman have whiskey at the pub. They make a toast to Doug.

Ciara, Lucas, Jen, and Marie arrive back at the Horton house. They discuss Liz's song. Marie asks about the time capsule. Ciara mentions the diamond necklace. They look through the box. The necklace is gone.

Steven is in the square. He sits on the bench next to Alice and Tom's plaque. Steven talks to Alice about the treasure in the house. He says the old me would have been tempted, but he's a changed man.

Julie is sitting on a bench by Doug's gravestone. She hears a noise. A man walks out of the bushes. She asks who he is? He says he's Doug Williams.

This was an outstanding episode. Kind of makes you angry to know Re-Ron had the ability to write something so good, but yet saddled us with such garbage most of the time.

I loved when Julie introduced Steven to the group downstairs (Ciara, Shawn-D, Jennifer and Lucas). Was also nice to see the family excitedly looking at the old mementos in the time capsule.

This was a heart touching episode. Even the little things that annoyed me didn't take away from the show.

Thank you kat for writing this up.

I'm guessing we will get Ron's normal trite for the rest of the week. Imagine if his storytelling ability could manage more than two shows every year?

Perhaps it is ths Doug who took the necklace. Police will be called of course.
I have a bad felling about this He firstaproaches a very vulnerable Julie before anyone else

They better not make him an illegitimate son by Doug

***wink for Star Wars reference

I agree. Like the family acting as though Ciara cured cancer because she opened the time capsule that could've clearly been opened with a small pry-bar or a even a heavy duty screwdriver. It was hardly a complicated box to open. I still go back to the absurdity of Alice hiding it in the chimney of a working fireplace. Please. Would've made more sense that after the fire if they had found a little hidden niche within one of the walls or floor instead.

And no, there is no explanation as to how Ciara managed to open the box (that you can see is just a regular locking metal box, not a complicated puzzle box).

I was doing pretty well, until Liz started singing that song. Then I had to bite my lips! It was such a mall crowd, but I'm sure it would be impossible to get a larger group all at once. Since I have watched since day one, I have loved seeing all the older people who were once main characters.

Why would Alice hide an expensive necklace as she did? And then to just leave it out? I've heard of many people who have been robbed while at a funeral. I have a few pieces of jewelry in a safe deposit box at the bank. But, a hidden time capsule just doesn't seem the ideal place. Just my opinion but doesn't seem like the best idea.

Nice job, Kat! And thank you for posting the links and images.

The memorial was beautiful, but would have liked more flashbacks.

I, too, think that young Doug Williams who startled Julie at the cemetery, took the necklace. The door to the house must have been open for people to come and go, and he somehow snuck in. Great way to introduce a character, if he is the culprit. Glad it wasn't Steven, though.

Wasn't it mentioned that a lock of Marie's hair was in the time capsule? If so, they did not tell her about it/show it to her. Unless I imagined this!!

Liz, Maggie and Marie dressed appropriately for the services. A generational thing?

Maybe Belle and Shawn will take this time as an opportunity to start fresh and get back together.

Thanks for the summary. Another show well-done, really good and emotional scenes as well.

Has it been explained why exactly Shawn-D and Belle are on the outs? Obviously after the Jan/EJ situations from last time, there would be awkwardness, but I thought they both agreed to move forward and fix their marriage? I guess it isn't working so well (just like when Carrie visited a few years ago, was on the outs with Austin, and slept with Rafe right before he divorced Hope). But I wasn't sure if I missed something or not that was more explicitly stated.

Yes, kat noted it in the summary. When they got back to the house, they hadn't gone through the time capsule again to look at the items with Marie before noticing the necklace was gone. (at the end)
Jen finds a framed lock of baby hair from Aunt Marie.
