Days of Our Lives - Thu., June 20, 2024

I thought Steve said he was going to Greece, yet here he is in Salem, in the hospital with a bullet wound.

So prom was advertised at school to be held June 5th, but it is being shown as occurring after Juneteenth.

Are these problems with time because of the writers' strike?

It does seem Tate looks a lot older than 16-17. While I like the actor portraying him, the actor is 26! No wonder he really doesn't look "teen".
And Ashley Puzemis, who plays the 16 yr. old Holly.....she is 23.

There was a LOT of shuffling with the writers' strike, that is why certain stories have vanished (Everett Bobby) and others were crammed into May to get rid of them (17 days of Eric). The prom was meant to air weeks ago. I know for certain that Xander and Sarah's story has been bumped from June to July and retooled, and that scenes and plots have been cut and scrapped and refilmed. We won't get any sort of balance until next month.

When I was in high school, (Illinois) we were out end of June, then began day after Labor Day in Sept. But still in Illinois, 10 years later, kids were out beginning of June. Worked for the school district for a few years, before moving way "up north"

Have been told there has to be a certain number of days in which students are to attend classes. There are built in days in the school calendars to allow for bad weather/no school. If there are more bad weather days of no school than planned for, extra days are tacked on in June. If there are less than those planned for, kids get out earlier in June. Up here, bad weather is usually either big snow storm, and streets are not plowed..........or ongoing ice storm. Yep, whatever, the bad weather days are usually in winter.

I've been surprised at how much calendars vary sometimes within a district. I used to work (not in the school but adjacent to it in service delivery) in a rural (not as rural as Poirot, but pretty rural LOL) district that would take whole weeks off for hunting season openers because attendance was so poor it wasn't worth it. So they were in classes in June a little later than other districts nearby. I think this year it was 178 days was required.

But back to the show - Prom is usually a few weeks before school ends. I used to volunteer for a non-profit that threw an alternative prom, and initially we scheduled it whenever, but the last few years we had to schedule around other proms as some students chose to attend both. We were usually looking at local proms happening the last two weeks in April and first two in May. June would have made life easy - if only we lived in Salem.

LOL, when I first moved here, that shocked the heck out of me, the closing of schools for the opening of hunting season in the fall. At first, I did not believe my son, but......the paper proved him right. Yep, truly a really big deal. Not having any children in school now, no idea if that still exists....that "day off" that is attributed to some other reason, never admitting the real reason why. Ha.

Jason, when I lived in ILLINOIS, I worked in a school district with over 35 schools. We did vision and hearing tests to all the students, which took us from Sept. to December, then came the retesting for those who did not meet the criteria for the first round. kindergarten, grade school, junior high. Those who still could not pass the very short exam were then referred to seeing their doctors (via parent notices).

I truly liked the job, and tried to get the school district here to adopt a similar program. Alas, their way was to do that old, old way of showing you an E and asking which way it was pointing. Computer technology had not reached here yet. LOL. I gave up eventually, just hoping now they have caught up and kids are able to get help if they need it.

And guess what,,,,,,,,,it all made me very aware of the fact that.....of late.......my hearing needs help. !!! And I sought it.

Here in PA students are required to go 180 days minimum. Some districts go more but most, because of standardized testing, start much earlier than we used to. Students are in classes 1-2 weeks before Labor Day and done at either the end of May or beginning of June. Our graduation was May 31 so I’ve been on break since then but go back something like August 14. So it’s funny to me to see a prom story when we’ve been out for 3 weeks already!

ah, well, Shaun, I swear CA has such a different lifestyle than the rest of the country, ...after all, do female applicants for new jobs all dress like hookers. Then again, how many times have you walked into an office, whether to lodge a complaint, make a payment, arrange for a connection, and find the female who greets or tends to the problem wearing a short short skirt barely covering her butt, or a top cut down to her navel?
