Just a short summary, most folks have seen this show already….so..Carly tries to explain to Daniel why she never told him he was the father of her baby. She tearfully (gmab) recounts the story we have heard many times…but now it is how she was in such a bad place in her life when she went to that conference and met Daniel, both had too much to drink, went to his room, both needed each other (pass the barf bags) and the next morning her guilty conscience had her tell him she was married, so they agreed on the “friends” thing. And besides, she ran into her friend, Rebecca, introduced her to Daniel…and…. (Why do I seem to remember Daniel saying Rebecca was a patient of his, and that is how they met??). By the time Carly discovered she was pregnant, Daniel & Rebecca were planning their wedding, and she just did not want to intrude on that. And of course Lawrence realized he was not the father, his illness had left him sterile. He beat her trying to get her to tell him the name of the father, but she didn’t. She was always not only protecting her baby, but him, too. Yada, yada. Daniel is not a happy camper, not at all, and not sure if he can forgive her. He takes off to check on his daughter.

The Salem PD has managed to haul in Gus, Hope pretends she recognizes him, and has written out a full statement. Bo & Hope want Gus to give them Vivian, or he is spending a lot of time behind bars. He starts to mention Viv going home for her gloves so she..but stops, wanting a lawyer. Bo goes out in the hall, calls Melanie’s guard to make sure he has never left the door. The guard confirms this, but mentions leaving for a minute to help Mrs. Horton. Hope & Bo dash off.

Vivian presses the pillow down on Melanie’s face, she struggles a bit, weakly moving her arm her leg, and then calms down, but Viv lifts the pillow. Melanie takes a breath, flutters her eyes open, then tells Vivian to just kill her, go ahead, she doesn’t know anything any more, so she might as well die. Vivian is taken aback, and then Melanie talks of how horrible Carly was to her, then shoots her, and then says she is her mother. She sobs as she tells of how her father was a gambler, and when he could not pay someone, sent her to the man, how she lied and cheated cuz her father taught her that, and after he died, she continued to do so as she thought that was what one did. Vivian is becoming horrified, as Melanie cries that the man was not even her father and now Carly won’t tell her who he is. Vivian puts the pillow aside, stroking Melanie’s hair, saying enough already. This girl has suffered enough in her short life. She is embracing Melanie as Philip & a doctor burst in, soon followed by Bo & Hope. The doctor says Melanie is stable but very weak, truly needs her rest. Hope has hustled Vivian out of the room. Bo asks if Vivian hurt her, but Melanie is a bit hazy, saying she had a dream about Vivian, at least she thinks it was Vivian, and all she wants to do is sleep. Bo gets a call from Carly, she needs to talk to him. He tells Hope (who realized who it was) that he has to fill Carly in on what happened, better to do it face to face. He takes off, meeting Carly, who cries on his should about Daniel…and how how both he and her daughter hate her now.
Meanwhile, Daniel enters Melanie’s room, she is alone, he just looks at her.

Rafe has called EJ to tell him of the family gathering. He is reluctant, but finally agrees, saying that he wants it to be on the pier….it is where they lost Sydney. Rafe lets Sami know, figures EJ just wants to rub his nose in it… he thinks it all very odd, but Sami figures EJ is just grieving, assuring Rafe she knows he did all he could, but Rafe sadly replies it just wasn’t enough.
EJ has come in to DiMansion, telling Stefano he came to get Johnny. Stefano knows there is to be a family gathering, EJ lets him know he is not invited. Stefano tells him to be wary of Hernandez…. Kate \goes to get Johnny, EJ exchanges a few unpleasantries with his father, doing his usual “you are dead to me, I am taking Johnny and going away for a while” speech. Kate returns with Johnny, EJ picks him up, leaves. Kate knows Stefano did not tell EJ of Rafe’s questions. Nope, and he won’t ever. If Senor Hernandez is investigating Elvis, fine, let Mr. FBI take EJ down. Good!

Vivian return to the Kmansion, is about to open the door, when Lawrence appears, scolding her for not killing Melanie. Vivian protests the girl has been thru enough in her short life, is an innocent girl….. but Lawrence will have none of that. Vivian promised to make Carly suffer, Viv has to go back and finish what she started. Vivian simple says “Good-bye Lawrence”, and his apparition fades away. She enters the door. Victor comments about the very long walk for a senior citizen. LOL. She says it was invigorating, cleared her head, he was right, Philip loves Melanie, she is a sweet girl, and Carly will be going to prison, she will be suffering there.

Down on the pier, Rafe, Sami, Will & Allie are wondering what is keeping EJ, when there he is, Johnny in his arms, telling them he is not ready for this gathering, and wants to cancel it. (who the heck does he think he is?). He tells Will to take Allie, Rafe to take Johnny back to the car, he wants to talk to Samantha alone. Rafe comments Sami will tell him anyway, EJ insists it is private. They all leave, Sami protests that the twins have to be told, EJ thinks later will be fine, she says they are asking now, she knows they are all sad, etc. EJ pretends he is leaving, Sami knows something is going on, insists he tell her, and he finally says he got another letter, pulls it out, tells Sami he thinks Sydney is still alive.

Thank you thank you thank you Barb!! I missed Friday because I was running around crazy! I'm glad Vivian left Mel alone. Vivian was always a great character although I miss Ivan. Poor Mel...She drove me whacko at first but I'm coming around to her and Philip.

Hugs and Thanks again!

Has Vivian turned the corner? Her appearance has changed in this episode. She used to look , well, crazy. I don't know how else to put it. In today's episode she was beautiful. She backed off on her attempted murder, and later said good bye to Lawrence. It will be interesting to see what direction she takes.

Thanks for the writeup, Barb. Even though I did watch it yesterday I was looking forward to reading your summary, if you were able to do it.

I'm not a medical person, but with the oxygen thing still in Melanie's nose, wouldn't she have been able to breathe even with the pillow over her face? I'm interested to see what direction Vivian will take now that she has decided not to kill Melanie and has apparently shooed off Lawrence.

Thanks so much Poirot. It sounds like a good episode. So happy that Vivian left Melanie alone and sent Lawerance on his way. I feel so bad for Melanie wanting to just die like that. Not a good set of mind for recovery.

@ Old Cowgirl. All the oxygen tube (nasal prongs) do is increase the percentage of oxygen from roomair 21% to a higher level. It is used to increase someones 02 sat. If the airway is blocked as with someone pushing a pillow over your mouth and nose it will not help.

Mostly because they cannot exhale I would guess. And DJM....we all have no idea what 02 sat is or means. Like I used to tell my mom (the nurse) talk English, Please! lol.

O2 stat means oxygen staturation level or how much oxygen the patient has in their body I believe...

Poirot, thanks so much for posting Friday's episode summary. That was short???

Lil0, I thought the same thing about Vivian looking beautiful on Friday, but I didn't catch the subliminal transformation. Good analysis!

OC, I hadn't thought about the oxygen piece. Good question. And thanks for the answer, DJM and the explanation, Ana. I also took O2 to mean oxygen saturation, but it took a minute to figure it out.

Never heard the phrase "oxygen saturation"......so guess I am getting put in the corner with a dunce cap.
And, lol, I do start out intending to be very short......and I know I left a few things out, but I think I got the feel of what happened anyway.

Gotta say, I am soooooo sick of Carly. Oh, well.

I feel so bad for Melanie wanting to just die like that. Not a good set of mind for recovery.

Actually, it is an ages-old archetypal type of device common in literature and mythology. The Innocent person offers him or herself as sacrifice--the goal being to redeem someone by the merits of the sacrifice. In this case, the Innocent is Melanie, and the redeemed person is Vivian. The payoff was when she firmly told Lawrence 'Goodbye'.

Another example is that of Luke Skywalker confronting his father, Darth Vader, at the conclusion of 'Return of the Jedi'.

Now I doubt that any of this was going through Melanie's head at the time. She was hurt, angry, tired, and exasperated enough that when this OTHER nightmare (Vivian) came along, she just wanted to get it ALL over with.

I don't post often but I have to say I was completely impressed with Mel and Viv's performances on this episode. I almost never get to watch but was able to see this one. Vivian was always the villainess I love to hate, but Friday I only loved her. I ended up routing for her and Melanie to bond by the end of it, instead of Melanie eventually growing to bond with Carly.
I would love to see Vivian redeem herself, as long as she stays bad enough that she and Kate can still have their cat fights. Tee hee. Those are fun.
Melanie broke my heart. Never before had she seemed such the little girl as she did in this epi. That act could melt a heart of stone.

Thanks Elissa. That was very interesting about Melanie and Vivian. Never thought of it that way, but she did redeem Vivian a little.

Thanks for another great write up, Barb.
Since we were locally pre-empted by 'storm coverage', endless .... there was no show. It was 'supposed' to be on in the wee hours this AM ... but it wasn't, so your summary was even more valuable than usual.

Friday's Show

I live in Northern New Jersey and I didnt see the show on because of the snow coverage. Was it on late AM again lke 3:00 AM?
