LOL, MPM, you were on vacation, figured you'd take care of it all when you got back, plus had to do it "before Christmas". Just heard the post office is going to be delivering some on Sunday.....probably special pkgs.
So, there was/is a huge grain elevator fire up in Superior. It is 120 years old, was no longer being used since 1989, but evidently has some very old, rare wood (wooden elevator) . Once the tallest or largest existing, 150 ft. tall. So a salvage crew was inside, retrieving this rare and expensive wood, had been for a few days, I guess, and they have to drill, saw, hit nails, etc. a spark, and bingo, all that old wood & grain dust....there were 5 inside, they called 911 immediately, all out, no one injured, but boy, that was all that was on the news. So the Coast Guard came, chopped a hole in Lake Superior, Fire Dept got water from there, fire was contained, but is still smoldering. They figure will take a few days.
Interesting thing is, was reading Sunday's paper about a salvage crew working on an old bldg. in southern WI, too. Same thing. Old, rare wood, cannot get anymore. They called it heart pine. It is worth a great deal.
Up in Superior, they said already the damage to the elevator is around 2 million dollars.....don't know about today if it got changed.
