Good Morning!

Last night we met my sister's family for dinner and Star Wars "The Last Jedi". Reviewers are loving this film, but some fans are rating it fairly low on Rotten Tomatoes [fan reviews]. I loved this film! It is unlike any of the previous films, in my opinion. It is not a repeat like the Force Awakens followed the plot line of A New Hope. It goes left where most fans thought it would go right and offers a reset of that universe. So if you are wondering if it is worth the money, and you like Star Wars, I would suggest you not read reviews [I did not until afterwards] and treat yourself to a 'galaxy far far away' one more time.

Busy morning in our Christmas jammies as White Christmas plays on the television. Church attendance will be later this morning but just in time to be home for The Bishop's Wife [favorite of mine] at noon. Today I am not baking, cleaning or doing laundry -- although all three still need to be done this week. Again.

Tomorrow my sister is coming here at 7:30am because we are attending a close family friend's funeral. I called her my '2nd Mom' growing up and loved her dearly. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 10 years ago, and 3 years ago was also diagnosed with breast cancer. Her 6 children agreed to let her choose to undergo surgery/chemo or opt for a natural death. She chose no treatment and the cancer had spread to her brain a few months ago. Saying goodbye, even though I know I will see her in heaven again, is close to losing my own Mother in 2010. So I will be very late posting tomorrow.

Wishing each of you a lovely holiday Sunday filled with joy.

Good morning.

I don't know about Noel, but I was awakened last night by a fairly strong rain storm. Cloudy and cooler today. I spent yesterday either in my chair or in my bed reading and napping to win control over my nose and the cold. I am happy to announce I believe I have done it!! But we shall see as today I have to venture out.

Noel - I am sorry for your loss. It will be nice seeing friends again, but not for the reason. Enjoy your day.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Good afternoon........Back from church, after the service, the kids all put on a short Christmas program....of the nativity, complete with various Christmas hymns that fit that part of the story, costumes which were great, (even a couple little sheep, those kids were so darling, crouching on the floor....and even had a real, live baby portraying the baby Jesus. So, got to sing along to at least the 1st verse of several songs devoted to Christmas.

Then went to the store for the paper, they were having a cookie walk, here is the container, various prices for the sizes, fill it. Well, the cookies were so big, tho they said I could get about 2 doz in.........I don't think I even got that. Anyway, yesterday I baked some oatmeal raisin cookies for church, so, I had to get cookies since I do not bake galore any more. LOL

Last night, watched Miracle on 34th St., followed by White Christmas, so that was just a peaceful, enjoyable evening, for sure. :)

I did about half the Christmas cards, as I had to give new address & phone number to everyone......will try to finish up today. PERHAPS!

Poirot: your day sounds lovely. Wish they filmed that children's nativity and we could watch it on YouTube. It sounds adorable. And, of course, you had to have those cookies. What a blessing to the sellers. Enjoy writing more Christmas cards and movies tonight.

A gloomy day here, but I can't complain since it rained last night. We left the
the Sunday school party just before it arrived. This time, the house we went
to was close to mine. I was home in less than 15 minutes.

I'm trying to get my Christmas envelopes finished today. I got three boxes
of pumpkin bread ready to go to post office tomorrow. I hope to get the
out of state cards mailed tomorrow too.

Noel, sorry for your loss. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. I accidentally read
a spoiler. I plan to go to movie after Christmas vacation over.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their Sunday.

I'm running very late tonight but I won't have time to stop by in the morning. A pretty good day at the hospital, nearly. A friend dropped in at the hospital. Husband was dozing so she and I went out in the hall and found a place to sit and visit. Today husband got a male nurse that we both really like. I remember him from my husband's stay in the hospital two years ago. He's been around this time but wasn't assigned to our room until today. He has the same kind of sense of humor as my husband so he kidded around with him and got him to laugh and respond. First time I'd seen him laugh or even smile since he's been in the hospital. I wish he'd been assigned to my husband right along!

The day didn't end so well though. A couple of hours after I got home, I got a call from the hospital, telling that my husband had fallen out of the bed. He was all right but he had a big knot on his forehead and a scratch on his arm. They'd done a CT scan and an x-ray and everything looked okay. Truth is, I'm surprised this hadn't happened before now. He's frequently trying to get out of the bed or chair and doesn't understand why he can't. I've been wondering how they're going to handle that in the nursing home. No good way, really.

Noel, I'm so sorry you lost your dear "other mother" friend. It's sad and leaves an empty spot.

I am guessing they have bedrails up, he just goes "around" them. I remember years ago, my friend's husband was in the hospital up in Duluth, and I went with her as "company" for her. So, while she was in with him, I wandered, and there was this elderly man, in a wheelchair, parked by the nurses' station. He had a cloth "belt" around his waist and tied in the back of the chair. Evidently, he was always trying to get out of bed, and thus, the nurses could keep him safe, and also keep an eye on him. Another, was in the hall, also secured in the wheelchair, in front of his room, this was so he could see the "action" I guess. People coming, going, medical people, guests, etc. Tis hard on medical people, and the patient cannot understand why they cannot just get up and go where they want.

I wondered about that. When I was child, I had bed rails when I got
a bigger bed. But they weren't as long as the bed. I guess
he could
climb over since he's bigger than a child.

OC, I'm sorry your husband fell. Be sure and tell the nursing home he tries to get
out of bed. Maybe they can put bed rails up.

OC: there is an alert/alarm they can attach to his sheet that tells them when he is trying to get out of bed. The doctor must order it here -- so please check with him about safety precautions.

I wish that thick, soft rubber floor mats could be placed next to those hospital beds. Staff would probably hate them, but... It would also help if the beds were kept adjusted much lower. Staff could raise them while attending to patients. Another thing for staff to hate. :)

A patient with mobility can easily circumvent bed rails. They are good for preventing accidental roll-offs.

Noel, that sheet alarm sounds good. Why would they require a doctor's order? Too much accidentally-tripped alarm noise? A $500/day billing charge? :)

When we moved my dad from the hospital to the rehab center, he had alarmed sheets AND at night they would lower the bed to the floor so if he were to fall out, it would be a much smaller fall. If he needed to get up to walk, which he never did without, help they'd raise the bed. The beds did not have rails because they said his bed at home won't have them and we don't want him dependent upon them.

Noel - so sorry to hear about your other mom.

OC - I believe my Grandma had the sheet alarms. And also, a pad on the floor that had another alarm in it that would sound if weight was placed on the pad. Even so much as 1 foot on the pad would set off an alarm at the nurses desk. I set off the pad alarm myself once by accident when I bumped the edge while trying to kiss my Grandma's cheek.

AGuy: whoever the powers that be decided a doctor's order was required. Like a nurse would overuse this step?

Cost determines much. When my mom was in hospital, someone OKed some kind of fancy air bed. The cost was surprising. I think the mattress rental reps visited every day.
