Good morning! It is so good to have power back on! All of Whidbey Island went dark. My power was off for 14 hours, and I see that this morning there are still small pockets of the island where power has not yet been restored. Apparently another bomb cyclone hit just off the coast of Vancouver Island. The wind swept through the Strait of Juan de Fuca and hit Whidbey broadside. Many other areas in Puget Sound also lost power, but it looks like we got the brunt of it.

OC, I'm so sorry you are ill. I hope you are feeling much better this morning. Please take good care of you!

Oh, my goodness Lil0, Hope the temp was good, long time to be without power. Glad it is back at last.

That is the one thing I hate here, as my home is all electric. Always had gas stoves (Illinois & by the lake here) so when power went out, at least there was the stove, especially in winter. But now, cannot even make toast if power goes out. lol Hope you are not all electric.
Another cloudy overcast day here, snowed some during the night, not much. Take care all, have a good day.

Good morning,

Glad your power is back Lil0 and hope it was not too cold.

Just having a lazy Sunday today. Not much else going on.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Good lateish morning..... I'd be preparing buttermilk pancakes but I have a sleeping dog on my lap so they will have to wait a bit.....
I have an all electric house too.... I hate it.... if the power goes out, I have nothing.... at least in AZ we had a bbq and I could fire that up for food prep.... not that we lost a lot of power in AZ...... the house in Sacramento when we redid the kitchen after 3 years, I had them pull the gas wall heater and use that gas line for a stove..... That stove has been replaced with a newer better stove but boy do I miss cooking on a gas stove.....

we will be unusually warm again today back up to the 60's.... which is according to the weather guessers bizarre. The normal for this time and area high 30's low 40's..... whatever I'll take it..... it's also been very very dry.... after a very rainy start to November we've had diddly.....

Enjoy your Sunday where ever you are....

Lil0, I agree with Poirot, 14 hours is a long time for the power to be off. But it's sooo nice when it does come back and I hope you didn't have any food losses or other damages. I've never known anyone who lived on an island and events that happen in smaller places don't get much national news attention so it's interesting to me to hear what life is like in such a place. I hope all stays calm for you now.

Poirot, my house has been all electric for many years so I know what you mean. When the electricity's down, you come to a halt. But one thing happened here 20 years ago that helped a lot. We got city water to the rural areas. Before that, every time the electricity went down, so did our well pump. Of course that was an improvement over depending on the wind for water when we had only a windmill, except we were set up for it with a holding tank--and gravity power to get it into the house. Lol.

Thanks to all of you for your concerns and well wishes on my health. The past two days and nights were pretty rough but I woke up this morning feeling better. I even felt a little bit hungry and marveled for a moment at such a strange feeling. I don't think I'll be dashing out anywhere for a day or so, as I need to get some more food in me and gain some more strength, but I'm no longer wanting to cut off my head and throw it in the trash so that's a good step forward.

Poirot, about the electrolytes, I just meant those that are in the rather unpleasant-to-me drinks like Gatoraid or Propel. However, there are electrolyte powders you can buy to add to water, though I haven't tried them. Also, real coconut water (not just the common drinks that say they have coconut water in them) is supposed to be very good for hydration and for other health benefits. It comes bottled but is not available everywhere. I wish I could drink it but honestly, I can't bear the taste of it. Maybe I should try mixing it with some juice or something.

All of you stay safe in whatever your weather brings.

One time, up here, when I lived really very rural out by the lake, we lost power for 3 days!!!! So glad then I had propane gas, so never lost heat. The electric company eventually realized it was better to put their lines underground since trees kept falling on the them with the lines strung on poles. They are only 2-3 ft. down so easy to get to if need be. Guess they didn't use to worry, only a few living off the road, but as resorts sprung up, more service needed, so they finally took down all the poles and put it all underground. Living rural is sure not all that easy.

My house is all electric, but my in-floor radiant heat keeps the floor warm for quite awhile after the power goes out. So, I didn't get cold. If the power stays off for a few days, I do start to get kind of cold!! Also, my dear neighbor has a generator. When the power is off for more than 3 or 4 hours, he starts up his generator. Then he tosses one end of an extension cord over the fence to me, and I can plug in my refrigerator -- so I didn't lose any food. All in all, I'm in pretty good shape. Just inconvenienced!

It's sunny this morning and will be in the 60s this afternoon. The moon was out when we walked this morning.
I plan to take some cannas out later.

My church lost internet again today. They're having a special Christmas service. We saw 8 minutes of it and
the internet went down again. I don't know if we'll see the rest of it or not. Last Monday, when I was at church
the internet company was there. I guess they didn't get it fixed since the early service wasn't on either.

Lil0, I'm glad your power is back on and you have a nice neighbor who lets you keep your refrigerator going.

Muzzaman, enjoy your lazy Sunday.

OC, I'm glad you're feeling better.

robin, you can have the rain I'm suppose to get tonight.

Poirot, I have gas furnace and water heater. The furnace won't go on when electricity is off.

I hope everyone has a nice rest of the day.

I guess living in a colder climate means the furnace is on constantly, when it is cold out. My hubby was in the heating and A/C business, so we usually were able to get heat. I think we had a generator (been some time since we lived in the lake home). But as I mentioned, we are pretty far north,

Robin, I'm still laughing about Vinnie singing with Santa!
One of the nice things with Pets Smart's visit with Santa they use your camera, and most people pose with their pets. I chose not too but stood behind the "elf" who had my camera taking pictures. I had the "ball" of the day and squeaked it so Vinnie's ears would perk and he'd look interested. When he started with the "singing" all of the people in line went "ah" I wanted to stay to see one of the dogs in line who was so reactive to people walking by I wondered how s/he'd take to being handed off to a stranger, as s/he was trying to bite everyone.....Vinnie of course spent the day dancing for anyone who looked his way....
here is his intense look at the squeaky ball....

It's cloudy now since rain tonight and tomorrow. I took out over 20 cannas. Some were broken so I
put them in the trash. Car back in garage :)

robin, Vinnie is such a diva.

Robin, what an adorable ham!

Kat, my daughter's heat is like that--gas but won't work when electricity is out. Good deal you got your car back in the garage before rain.

Lil0, what a great investment you made in putting in-floor heat in your house! I always thought that would be such a luxury to have. And what a generous neighbor you have, who shares his generator with you!

Poirot, I can see the need for burying electric lines in your area at the lake. I wish that could be done everywhere. Our landline phone lines are buried out here but not the electric. However, when my husband and I moved out here in 1978 I persuaded him to take down the overhead lines coming from the main pole and bury them inside our yard. Many years later, about 5 years ago, something happened and my Mr. Fix-it dug them all up by hand and replaced (and buried the new ones too) them. I was without electricity for several days. Using a machine to dig in my yard would not be safe because there are water, electric, and propane lines buried all over the back yard.

Muzz, I hope you enjoyed your lazy Sunday.
