Good morning. The initial alert warned of high winds Monday evening. Then yesterday I saw an update that said they could start as early as 7:00 this morning. Well, here it is 4:00 AM and it has begun!! I adjusted my plans yesterday afternoon when I learned that most of today could be quite blustery. I had planned to do some shopping in addition to my usual Monday laundry. Both of those chores got moved to Sunday evening! The shopping trip got moved because I avoid any road with tall trees during a windstorm. The laundry got moved because of the danger of long term power outage. So, I am in pretty good shape to just hunker down and wait for this to pass.
Wishing you all a safe and pleasant day.

Good morning and having leftover pizza.

I also change my clocks back on Saturday so I'm used to it. It works for me.

I'm waiting for my cab to take me to the airport. I'm off to Winterpeg (Winnipeg) for the week for my job. Not the most tropical or sunny destination but it's a change from the day to day.

Have a good week everyone.

good morning............and the gloomy, cloudy continues. For supposedly being "lighter" in the a.m. , was sure dark instead. Woke at 5:30, finally got up at 6, and still not dressed at 8. LOL It has been very still out, but just now the wind started, branches are moving. There are huge pine trees and I do worry about them suddenly breaking and crashing in a storm, any time of the year. Out at the lake, we just had a huge tree taken down, it was beginning to lean at bit....would have destroyed the cabin.

P.S. UPDATE.......tIS raining now.... (rained slightly in the wee hours, now it is foggy and raining hard.....

Good Monday Morning all..... it's raining..... still...... which is great because the area needs rain, bad because the BEAST is not a huge fan of the wet stuff....
I need some help. I purchased a pretty bare root rose in spring, it has the prettiest flowers that smell amazing.... it's in a pot. But as the temps grow colder what do I do with the rose? I've read, to cut it back then put it in a garage, to bare root it again, after cutting it back. What should I do with it?
Not sure what to do with myself today.... I want to go out but I don't enjoy being rained on and I really don't have a reason to go out.... perhaps I'll just read.....
Muzz enjoy your trip to a different location to work....
Lil0 be safe......
Poirot hope your rain doesn't turn to snow......

Good Monday to all...

Good morning everyone. We're to have an unseasonable 70*F today with plenty of sunshine.

I'm stuck in the office today finishing up the monthly reports and billings. We were to have a huge K-6th grade school, but I ended up calling to reschedule. My co-worker's teenage son took a bad fall this morning injuring his head, neck, and shoulder. (They're at children's hospital...still waiting to hear from her.) I was in bed Saturday afternoon and Sunday with back spasms. No way was I going to attempt to lift all of that equipment several times by myself today.

Thank you to whomever mentioned The Diplomat on Netflix recently. I started watching season 1 over the weekend while stuck in bed.

I remembered to change back my few wall clocks this weekend, but forgot to reset my watch. Did it after I got to the office today. Thankfully, everything else took care of itself including the car.

Lil0, stay safe in those high winds.

Muzzaman, safe travels. Hopefully you'll have somewhere nice to go for your dinners while on your work trip.

rf, enjoy your day off.

Poirot, stay safe in that nasty weather. Hope you don't have to go out today.

robinsnest, if the rose isn't dormant, can you move it inside the house?

Overcast and sunny taking turns, 58 degrees. There is a Drought Watch issued for New York City. I do my part in conserving and hope others do the same.

Lil0: Be safe during the high winds!

Muzza: Wishing you well on your business trip. Cold pizza is pretty good:)

Poirot: You might be getting some of the rain we need in NY.

Robin: Ditto that you are getting some of the rain we need. I hope you get good advice about the rose.

redsquirrel: Hope your co-worker's son will be okay and that your back spasms don't return.

No matter the weather, let's try to enjoy the day.

Lil0, good thinking on your part, to rearrange your schedule and get things done. I sure hope you don't get any damage from the winds. I thought we had bad winds here in Texas but from reading your posts over the years I think it is much worse where you live.

Muzz, I smiled when I read what you said about changing clocks and how you're okay with it. You are such an upbeat person, it seems you go with the flow and enjoy whatever you're doing regardless of the circumstances. Maybe just making the best of it. Same with your trip to Winnipeg. Hope you find some unexpected enjoyment there.

Sexton, finally a day off for you! Yea! Enjoy your time at ActionS. If they have food I wish I could be there to eat with you. Nearly lunch time here and I'm at a loss for what to eat.

Poirot, your conditions sound like here. Hard to tell anything about sun rise and sun set times when the skies are already so overcast. And the wind seems to be making it all over the place--from Lil0 to you to me and elsewhere. I hadn't thought so much about the disadvantage of having tall trees in a yard until recent years when we've begun to hear so much about trees falling on houses, cars, etc. Now I think I'm glad that my trees aren't that tall, even though they are pretty and would be nice for shade. I just hope all of you will be safe through these storms.

Robin, sorry I can't be any help with growing plants. Maybe someone here has advice for you though. It must be hard for you to gear down and stay in for a day, since you are accustomed to functioning under demands to go here and there all the time. I hope the weather clears up soon for you and Vinnie--but only after the area gets the rain it needs. Everybody depends on rain, even though some are more directly connected to pros and cons of it than others.

Squirrel, it looks like you too made a wise choice for rescheduling. Your co-worker's son's injury sounds like it could be serious. Please let us know how that goes. So hope he'll be better soon. Enjoy your "warm" sunny weather while it lasts and take care of your back the best you can.

I had another one of my all-too-frequent nights of waking up before 5:00. I am thankful it was without the migraine that was with me the past two mornings. I got up for a couple of hours and read, then lay down on a bed in my sunroom and slept hard, though kept trying to wake up for some time. I was hearing the most awful wind but curtains were closed and I couldn't see out. The wind sounded so ferocious it was making me a little nervous. I kept telling myself it just seemed unusually loud because I was in a long room which is mostly windows. Ordinarily I sleep in the main part of my house, which is covered on the outside with 5"- thick rock, with a solid layer of shiplap underneath, then sheetrock for a final layer inside. So it's pretty well insulated, making it much quieter in there. I was groggy from sleeping hard so when I finally got up and looked outside I was shocked to see there was a heavy driving rain mixed in with that wind! I had no idea it was raining. I thought it had all passed. No wonder it was so loud. Water was gushing out of the gutter and I guess the ground finally got saturated because there was more water standing than there was the past two days, when it actually rained much more than it did this morning. It's quit now and I think it will all be cleared out by noon or so--until Wednesday or Thursday, when more is supposed to move it. .....Uh oh, the sun just popped out so the drying will begin.

Wilde Woman, glad to see you popped in before I move on. I have to say, somehow in all my years it had never occurred to me that there could be a drought in New York City! It's strange how we can go a whole lifetime with unrealistic perceptions about things, people, and places without even realizing it. I appreciate the "education" I get from your comments. Also others from all around the country.

Good lunch coming up at ActionS
I have to pick up a prescription at HEB Pharmacy today
Then Boomer to the vet at 4 for his Bi-weekly IV
Hope the rain holds till I get home

EDITING TO ADD

Got a call to help new employee learn pick up ropes. Boss wanted me to "show him" where to go. It's not exactly rocket science. I think he was a little embarrassed. He could have been given verbal directions. Of course the kids were not prompt coming to the van. Boomer's IV had to be rescheduled. My vet is very accommodating with my schedule

Freezing here. 42 degrees F. Came home to a shopping list on the fridge cause nobody but me knows how to go to a shop. Cats do not understand time change and are demanding food an hour early. Strangely dehydrated from hotel room air conditioning. Currently hiding under a heated blanket with Cat#3. Have to drag myself out in an hour to go view my daughter's new house. Glad I missed the move. Brrrrr

OC: This is what the alert says:

A drought watch has been declared for New York City. City agencies are taking action to reduce water usage and protect water supplies. In addition, residents should take action to limit water usage during this dry season.

Some actions New Yorkers can take include
- Reporting open fire hydrants and leaks to 311.
- Avoid flushing toilets unnecessarily and take shorter showers.
- Avoid running the tap while shaving, washing hands, or brushing teeth.
- Take measures to fix leaky faucets and pipes within your house.
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only when full, and use shorter cycles if available.

As it is, I only flush when I must, which I think you can figure out! I don't keep it running for shaving/brushing teeth, but for washing hands I feel there is no other way, but I am quick. My showers average 10 minutes max which, according to Seinfeld, is the ideal time (ha ha). No dishwasher. Don't have own washing machine, we have a laundry room, and I make sure I have a full load, anyway. I just hope my neighbors follow suit.

No rain this morning so my friend and I got in a walk. She told me we had over 4 inches of rain since
Friday night. I was able to get in and out of church without getting wet. It sprinkled when I was dropping
off some of the recycling. Tornado warning until 9

My internet and TV went off before noon. I'm glad I could come to my friend's to do this. Everything
is suppose to be on in 20 minutes, but a lot of businesses don't have internet either in the little town.
I'm at my friend's doing this.

Lil0, stay with the wind.

Muzzaman, have a good week with your job.

rf, I'm glad you're having a day off.

rs, have you watched The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix.

I need to get home before the weather gets bad. Hopefully, I can watch TV tonight and tomorrow.

Wishing everyone a good evening.

Wilde Woman, thank you for that information. I really do enjoy hearing about how others live. Those are certainly common sense measures to take when water supplies are in question. In reading your post it occurred to me that the other thing I'd never thought about is just what an incomprehensible amount of water it would take to supply a city the size of New York. Pretty much everything about having that many people together in one general location is beyond what I can process, although I have been there a few times to get a passing view of it. Still, I can't imagine living in those surroundings. I'm guessing there are many, many people--unlike you--who don't take the suggestions for conserving seriously and therefore they ignore them. I grew up here in a time when water was very hard to come by so I had conservation pounded into me from the beginning. Now after having "city water" brought to the rural areas for the past 20 years, even I tend to take it for granted at times but it doesn't take much to bring the challenges of times past to mind.

Sexton, I hope Boomer's holding his own. What did you eat at ActionS?

Brisby, it sounds like you've got a lot to juggle, with shopping, air conditioning, heated blanket, and cats and seeing your daughter's new house. Glad you missed the move. I couldn't help but think about how Robin could commiserate with you, when I read how you are the only one in the house who knows how to shop. Then I saw she thought the same thing. :)

Hope you get your tv and internet back, Kat.
