We were out and about by 8:30 today getting things moved in storage units as we will have a Wintery Mix come this Wednesday.... taking advantage of the good weather to get as much done as possible..... Waiting for daughter in law to contact to see when she can help put up the lights.... I contacted some places advertising to do it, but what I want is not worth paying somebody $600 for.... sorry....it's just not.....
I've got all the food ready for Thanksgiving now it would be real helpful if I knew how many were coming.... just HB or me or his family.......I honestly don't care how many but since I'm making enchiladas it would help to know if 4 will be enough or 30?

I hope everyone is having a good Saturday.....

Oh, my gosh, $600???? Ridiculous! Maybe they think they are supplying the lights as well as takedown........still wayyy too much. I don't put up lights outside any more, just too dang much trouble.......and I have no family here whatsoever. Last year (I have a small, artificial tree) I ran into a problem, the tree has lights strung on it, all little yellow or orange (forget which) and one string was out. Went all over town trying to buy one.........Not anywhere. Hardware stores, WalMart, just None. Not even spare ones (which I thought I'd just replace the bulb or bulbs. No idea if there was a shortage of that color, or just sold out. I am gonna start looking NOW, maybe will find some, who knows?

It's a beautiful day with sun and in the 60s. Tomorrow it will be in the 70s. Maybe I'll finally get the
canna bulbs out. It's going to be colder next week.

A busy morning going shopping, library and the little library. I worked on the high school roster.
I have a little more to do before we send out emails to folks.

robin, good luck with the storage unit. I hope your daughter in law will be able to help you.

Poirot, good luck with your tree. I hope you find some additional lights to put on it.

I hope everyone has a nice rest of the day.

Moving slowly today. Eventually got to my parents house around 11:30 and took Mum out to do shopping. Dad is still recuperating and on the all ice cream diet. He promises he will add more food to his repertoire soon. Beautiful day here, crisp but not cold. Plan tomorrow is to do nothing but I imagine that is not going to happen. I seem to spend all my weekends running around town in my wee car. Good thing it does not cost much in gas.

Brisby, I think I must have missed whatever happened to your dad.

Kat, I hope you had some relaxation time this afternoon, following your very busy morning.

Poirot, one year I wanted some colored lights on a tree that had only clear lights. I took either some crafts paint or a highlighter pen (I forget which) and painted the clear bulbs and it worked out to my satisfaction.

Robin, enchiladas for Thanksgiving sound good to me--they sound good to me any time. But yeah, you gotta know how many or else you make a bunch and freeze what doesn't get eaten. I know costs are up for everything but sometimes you just gotta decline when it sounds unreasonable. Hope you can somehow get the lights put up. Two or three years ago I had my windows cleaned and got charged $400. That may not be unreasonable in today's world but it's something I'm not willing to pay. So I sit here and look at raccoon footprints on the glass doors everyday. I was going to clean those off but I have two busy grandsons coming next week so I don't see a reason to clean the glass doors until after they've gone.

My handyman came again today and finally finished. He got the under-sink water filter installed yesterday. Today he finished putting in new tile around my in-wall water faucet in the kitchen. Waiting 1-2 years for that to happen makes me appreciate it all the more.

@Old Cowgirl Dad is 83 and started having falls, got pneumonia, contracted covid in hospital, then developed an inability to swallow. It's been hit and miss figuring it all out, and of course my Mum is also elderly and not able to do the full-time care. I've got them in home help now. This all started literally the day I drove my husband home from out of town private surgery after a 6 month ordeal where he nearly died. It's been quite a year but I'm very grateful they are both still with us. You sure learn what you can cope with. Hopefully 2025 is better. My parents will celebrate 60 years married in April and are determined to get there.

oh my gosh, brisby...........so much to deal with. Am glad you were able to get them in home help. That is hard to come by here. Sure could have used some when hubby began to fail. He was so against going back to hospital, but no choice. He was falling, & I was unable to get him up again. When he fell the last time, and was in our local hospital, he got transferred up to Duluth, 100 miles away.....He did not last long after that, and it still breaks my heart, puts me in tears, that I was not there. Just this past year now, our hospital has expanded, built a new addition so perhaps our citizens will now be able to stay here.
Continued prayers for your family and you, my friend. God's blessings to you all.

Brisby, my heart goes out to you. Like Poirot, I went through some difficult years with my husband too. Also each of my parents before that. But my sister and I were able to take care of them at home except for some hospital visits. Your dad seems to have a lot to deal with but we never know how things might go. I'll pray for him too, and for you.
