11/10/24 - Donuts and Sesame Street Day

56 and overcast, which is good. We are due for badly needed rain later. Funny how, when we had soakers/flooding, we were concerned about the subways, etc. And now, after so many dry days and wildfires, we want them. Well, maybe not flooding, but significant rain. Fingers crossed.

Kat - Thank you for posting about Sesame Street Day. Such lovable characters.

48 here, cloudy, overcast, rained this morning. The sky looks like I have been feeling the past few days, cloudy and miserable. Aaah, guess just one of those times..........

Not enjoying anything on TV, lousy weather, been staying in, I want to go shopping besides groceries, need a few things, but no where around except WalMart......and not in the mood, weather is chilly, friends busy with their families or vacations......Heck, not even e-mails. That time of year. We had a couple of homes for sale here, they were bought, saw people in them a couple times, but.....not any more. Probably snow birds that fly south. Some friends at church owned a home in AZ I think where they went all fall and winter. But they sold it, so now are permanent residents here. Don't think they are too happy with the weather thus far. This kind of weather leaves you at odds with what to wear outdoors. Light jackets are not warm enough, winter jackets too warm. Winter caps flatten hair, but just earmuffs not enough. Nose runs suddenly, unexpectedly, coughing follows, lol. No not a cold, allergens in the air, saliva in the throat. Such fun. NOT.

Hard to believe Sesame street is that old..........always enjoyed as the kids were growing up, tho once they went to school daily, that was the end of it. (yes, I snuck in a bit of viewing here and there, never told them. LOL) Enjoy your day.........

P.S. weekends hard for me as I do NOT watch sports.......at all. And first it's football, that ends, comes basketball, and of course then Baseball. And if they decide, there is soccer, wrestling, and the boxing matches. And if I think I can watch movie channels instead, nope, there will be a movie I don't want to watch, or one I have seen a dozen times, (and will probably rewatch again. LOL)

Count von Count ruled our lives for many years..... my kids were done before Elmo hit the street.... sadly I've found Elmo annoying as all get out...

We got caught up on the Marlow Murder Club, the new Masterpiece theatre show..... looking forward to tonight's episode number 3......

I need to pick up some snacks for the beast..... somehow we ran out and he needs them.... so I'll be heading out shortly.....

Good Sunday to all....

Good afternoon. Poirot, you summed up how fall, sports (especially football), weekends, approaching holidays, weather, etc. affects me. Funny thing too, my niece and I both feel this same way about all those things, including nothing on tv and nobody on online, but strangely enough, for reasons I don't know, though we talk on the phone almost daily during the week, we often don't talk on the weekends. I guess we each just crawl into our holes and pull the dirt in on top of us. I do go to church though, so that's a treat for me.

Sexton, I'm glad you repeated it here. I often don't see things in the other forums. Please give us updates on how things go for your niece's husband. That's pretty scary. I pray the disc can be treated and the paralysis will be temporary.

Robin, oh dear, I hope you got those mandatory snacks in a hurry!

Wilde Woman, I sure hope you get a good rain soon. Sufficient water is one of those things we don't think much about until there's a shortage of it. This morning at church someone mentioned that the lake we get our water from (about 40 miles away) is FULL. All the towns and cities out in this part of the world depend on area lakes for their water supplies. These lakes are rarely full and often they're low enough to cause concern, so this is news for rejoicing. It won't stay full for long but at least it won't evaporate as fast as it does during the summer months. By the way, where does a city like yours get its water?

I guess I completely fell through the cracks when it came to Sesame Street. I don't remember ever watching or my kids watching it so I don't know any of the characters or anything about it. Only seeing or hearing someone else talk about it. I see from Kat's post that it is 55 years old so obviously too late for me to have watched as a kid. My two older kids were born in the 1960s so it would have been around for them. Maybe they watched it some and I just didn't pay attention or remember. My youngest was born in 1978 but we didn't watch much tv, and didn't have a tv, throughout much of his childhood.

When it comes to the Muppets, only remember a couple of them. I guess because the first few appeared on Sesame St. I only really remember Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and vaguely, that Count. LOL. I think only my youngest got to see any bit of the show, and not long, as off to school he went. (he is 8 years younger that his closest sibling.

It's a beautiful day in my neighborhood. It's sunny and in the 70s.

After dinner and vacuuming, I went outside. I was outside longer than I thought I would be.
I bought pansies yesterday on the way home from shopping. I got six. I planted three in the
back. I took time and dug out flowers that keep coming back. The roots look like worms and
go all over.

Tomorrow is circle lunch, but I'll be staying home to do more outside stuff. I've got grass seed
coming today. Since the ground is wet, I'm going to plant seed tomorrow in the bare spots I have.
I still have three pansies to plant and get cannas out before rain on Wed. Hopefully, I can get my
Covid shot tomorrow too.

rf, sorry to hear about your niece's husband. Prayers for him and the family.

Wilde Woman, I hope you get the rain you need.

Poirot, I hope you found a movie to watch on the Hallmark channels.

OC, I hope you found something to keep you busy this afternoon.

robin, I hope you found some tasty treats for the Beast.

I hope everyone has a nice afternoon.

Kat, it really is nice to hear you can still plant something like pansies..........that it is warm enough, and plenty of sun. If I tried this time of year, they'd be dead in a day or two. (after all, this is kind of country where they get all those snow pics, sking and sledding, etc. so popular during the Christmas season.
I'll be checking out the Hallmark channels in an hour or two, been on the computer. and trying to do a few odd things...don't like doing big chores on Sunday.........Was not feeling good, did not go to church, but instead, got our church service on radio at 6:30, then a mass from Milwaukee around 8:30, and one from washington D.C. around 9:30, so think I made up for it........3 services this morning.
Actually, Hallmark channels have some good stuff on now, and Turner movie classics have Bells Are Ringing, then Christmas stuff (Bells has Dean Martin and Judy Holiday)
Actually, these Christmas movies come so early, that by the time the Christmas season arrives, one no longer finds them exciting or interesting. Just wish they'd let Thanksgiving get here (or the week before perphaps) before they start the big push.

Something exploded in the air

Currently, thousands of people across the Southwest, particularly in Oklahoma and Texas, are witnessing and reporting an unknown object dramatically breaking apart in the sky. This event has created a stunning display, with fragments scattering across the sky and leaving a bright, glowing trail of debris visible for miles. Witnesses have described vibrant colors flashing overhead, leading some to speculate it could be a meteor or space debris, while others think it might be a UFO. Officials have yet to confirm the source, and the situation is still developing

more information about explosion

UPDATE: According to reports, this was not a meteor but possibly a Starlink satellite breaking up as it reentered Earth’s atmosphere, creating a spectacular display across parts of Oklahoma and Texas about an hour ago. The satellite, STARLINK-4682, launched on August 28, 2022, was likely responsible for tonight’s display.
