10/16/2024 - Donuts and Squirrel Awareness month

Doubt will see any up this way, am sure they are all in hiding, or left for down south. Tis 20° here this morning.....frost covers everything. Forecast claims only into the 50s today. Sun is shining......so probably will. Weird seeing all the white grass............

It was 33 here earlier... currently 38 but should warm to the 60's today..... the people who lived directly across from us who used to, get this, walk around their house, without permission from the beast have moved out. They had a cleaning crew at the place yesterday.... so I wonder what the new people will aspire to do???
Did get to see the comet last night.... I couldn't see it with my eyes, had to use the binoculars, and the camera captured it pretty well. That was neat.
My new door latch for the back door has broken again.... so a request for repair has been made.... why I could live with a door latch for 20 years in AZ and never break if, one in Sacramento for 30 years and never break it and in 15 months am going through two in Wichita.... what is going on?

Happy Wednesday and if you haven't watched the show, don't bother, it isn't worth it....

Started out at 42 degrees, not 53. Warm up coming to the 70s for a few days.

Robin: Cute picture. I am definitely aware of squirrels. They are all over the place, co-existing with the pigeons. But they are aggressive and follow you if they think you have food. I enjoy seeing them take whatever they can find and bury their stash in the dirt for another time. Clever creatures, but don't get too close! Glad you had a glimpse of the comet. Odd about your door latch.

Kat: Thanks for the videos!

Poirot: As long as you don't get any snow yet, that is a good thing.

We are mid-week, enjoy!

My weather is like yours, Wilde Woman. 42* this morning and 70s* during the day this week. It's dry though, and lots of sunshine, and wind, out of north today. I turned on my heat for the first time this season.

Poirot, I've always wondered how wildlife survives your winters. I had no idea squirrels might leave the area.

Robin, I think a lot of things are just made of inferior quality these days. Maybe door latches are in that category. I had new new handles and locks put in my French doors recently (3rd time because the first two locks did not work). This time the long, slender handles are ridiculously thin. Same design but much thinner. Maybe it's supposed to make them more attractive but I suspect it's a way of cutting cost. It almost hurts my hand to grasp them--like grabbing hold of a dull knife.

Kat, I liked the videos. Cute!

I don't want to be overrun with squirrels, happy to have only one or two. I sure do enjoy watching them. I watch them bury pecans all the time and I always wonder if they will remember where they hid them. Did I already tell that they've taken to eating pecans on my back landing above the steps--overnight. Each morning I find new scraps of freshly eaten pecans.

It was in the 30s when we walked this morning. It's sunny now and in the 60s. My flowers still
look nice after the low temps. Tonight I have frost warning.

I'm going to the dentist soon for my cleaning. I rescheduled since I had cold last week.

The squirrels come to my yard for water. I need to put fresh out when I come out later.

robin, sorry to hear about the door latch. I hope your new neighbors won't get Vinnie upset.

Wilde Woman, enjoy the nice weather.

I hope everyone has a pleasant rest of the day.

I just looked out to the northwest and saw a huge bright thing in the sky. Is the comet still visible tonight or could this be some planet or something? It doesn't look like the pictures I've seen of the comet. No "spray" of light going downward from it. But it is bigger and brighter than anything I normally see.
I also was surprised to see what looks like a full moon in the east. It seems like only a few days ago that we had a full moon.
All of this I saw while watching a skunk drink from the critter water pan, then he waddled up to the house and went sniffing around the edges on two sides.

Venus is out this month. She's very bright....

Venus is in the box the comet is in the circle

Yes, the comet is still visible tonight. I didn't get a better picture of it tonight, but I did see it again. The moon will be full tomorrow and it is the Super Hunter Moon.
