10/07/2024 - Donuts and Monday Monday

I've had a bit of entertainment this morning. Twenty big turkeys came rushing into my back yard. They all ran to one spot, as though there was something special there to be had and only they knew about it. So they were happily milling around, enjoying their mystery delicacy, when the resident squirrel suddenly lunged from the scaffolding and landed right in the middle of this peaceful gathering. As usual, the squirrel (I'm going to start calling it "Earl's Kid" because it looks a little smaller than Earl and may be one of his two babies from his summer fling), had a sprig with probably three pecans on it and he was on a single-minded mission to go squirrel it away some place. When he suddenly realized he was completely surrounded by these monstrous birds towering over him, he put on the skids--but for only an instant. Then he started zig-zagging, as only a squirrel can do (football players should be so talented). He made a remarkable breakthrough and disappeared, with the pecans still secure, to continue his business of the day. The turkeys showed almost a spark of interest but Earl's Kid was just too fast for them to engage.

A beautiful sunny day, 72 right now, and how I wish it could be this way in Florida and all states affected by the past and coming hurricanes. Thinking of you all.

Robin: Loving that fireplace mantel!

Poirot: Sending special prayers to your friend and Wayne.

OC: Thank you for the laughs. I have a mental image of what you described.

Everyone please have a great day, and count your blessings, always. I sure do.

For OC. Why did the turkeys cross the road? Because the chickens shouldn't have all the fun!

Good afternoon everyone. We made it through the horrendous storm last night. If you saw the delay of Sunday Night Football on NBC, then you saw that same storm after it past through here on the way south from Canada. My coworkers who were at the game said they got soaked even though they were hunkered down in the concourse of Acusure Stadium. The rain water went through like a river.

This a photo taken by photographer Dave DeCello from across the river from the stadium.

Another sunny day in the 70s. It's going to be in the 80s again this week. No rain in sight.

I'm feeling better, but I'm still coughing. I cancelled my dental appt for tomorrow. I don't
want to cough when they're trying to clean my teeth. I got to church this morning. I'm
inside the rest of the day.

OC, thanks for the fun story with turkeys and squirrel.

rs, that's a scary thunderstorm.

Poirot, I hope your friend will be ok.

Wilde Woman, enjoy your nice day.

I hope everyone has a pleasant rest of the day.

I turned the game on last night to catch the score before what I thought would be end of the first quarter and they were just talking with a timer saying kick off time and it was wayyyyy out in the future.... I sent a text to my son asking what was happening and he didn't know he wasn't interested in either team so he and his wife were watching a movie..... around 10:15 my time I tuned in for the last half of the game.... holy crow was it a challenge..... that is a great picture..... scary but fantastic.....

Kat, I'm glad you're feeling some better. Good idea to postpone the dental appointment. I was wondering how you'd get through the process while coughing.

Robin, sounds like your son made the better choice by watching a movie. Is that mantel display your own creation? I like all the color and the lighting. Very pretty!

Squirrel, what an incredible picture of the storm. I'd have been hunkered down in my basement (if I had one) with something like that going on. Can't believe people were out in a stadium for a ballgame.

Wilde Woman, I'm glad you are having a few nice days, after all the summer heat and some rainy days. Those turkeys even look like they're crossing the road for the purpose of having fun. Haha.....just looking at turkeys makes me smile or laugh. There's just something comical about their appearance. However, when the sunlight catches their heads just right it shows the most beautiful color of blue. (Anyhow it looks blue to me, though my daughter tells me I don't see colors right anymore, since I have cataracts). Even so, the color makes me wish I had a dress or a room painted or something that color.

Poirot, I hope your friend can stay out of harm's way. Also Wayne and everyone else. So very many people have moved, and are moving, to Florida, it seems like most of us know someone who lives there. (I have a cousin's daughter, but she's been there her whole life).

Wilde Woman, you are so right, we need to be counting our blessings. Having the disasters and tragedies right before our eyes with modern technology is a daily reminder.

Well, my covid tests arrived from the Post Office. No idea how to find the "new" expiration date as there is only one of those weird scribbled codes and I have no clue how to decipher.
Seems it was all a waste.........

Poirot, I'm glad you got your tests. I haven't been notified yet it mine were mailed.

I got an e-mail on Friday, said delivery would be Monday, and then today another e-mail saying it would arrive between 8:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. today........I went to my mailbox around 1 p.m. and there it was.

I guess they come when they come. I have the notification I ordered them.

go to this page: COVID USE BY DATE

scroll down till you see the type of COVID test you have, they have pictures of the boxes, I chose the BinaxNOW as a sample there are lots of other choices
covid test.JPG
to the right of this picture are blue words saying Extended Expatriation Dates, This is where it gets semi complicated. FOR boxes of tests you already have, not the ones that arrived today, you need to check the lot number of the test against a list that will download to your computer. Sample lot numbers:153349, 153364, 153476, 153495, 153551, 153658, 153670,154406, 155063, 155512, 155582, 156371, 156374 any box with those lot numbers has already expired. You can throw it out.
You can find your lot number on the box itself With the number from your kit as an example my kit has the number 199176, I look for that number on the document that downloaded to my computer from the webpage, if the number is not on the page then the expiration date for that test you've been saving has passed and you can throw it out in the garbage. Most likely the test liquid has evaporated so you couldn't use it. (However,if you have a desire to collect long handled swabs you could keep those) OR to the right of the picture you will see expiration date see box label

For the boxes that you received today, the expiration date on the box is the expiration date. (At least that's what I'm seeing online) I haven't receive my shipment of test kits yet, they are coming Wednesday.

Does this help?

Mercy, Kat, that video is disturbing! You've probably heard me say I can't stand raccoons but I usually have one hanging around. Hoping to get that resolved by having the old garage/shop cleaned out so they don't have a nesting place. I hope the fish and wildlife people were able to help that lady. Who could afford $500 a raccoon for removal? That's outrageous and immoral. I'd try trapping them and hauling them off myself before I'd pay that. It would take a long time, one at a time though. Maybe she could hire someone with a livestock trailer to load a bunch of them at once. It would be cheaper than the offers she's had. Still, the easiest, cheapest way would be to make sure there is absolutely no food or water or nesting havens in her yard. It might take a few days but they will leave. Hey, she should have called me for solutions! :rotfl:

OC, that is a lot of racoons. Your cattle probably keep wildlife away from you. I've been
keeping water out for the birds, but haven't seen that many.

Very odd year up here as well. Was odd not to have seen any flies, bees, or even mosquitos all summer! Usually there would be some rabbits hopping around at times, (only saw a couple), no deer, and with hunting season looming, won't see any then, if any around, they go in hiding. No hummers this season........and tho used to see a lot of robins, cardinals, and of course sparrows, only a few sparrows, lucky if two robins.... I swear, don't know if it is just me, or living so close in to town, or is Mother Nature mad at us all. Maybe it is just I was so used to living out by the lake, and seeing all kinds of wildlife all the time.......and now am just a block from major 4 lane highway, traffic, trucks, etc. So while close to forest, there are...........let's say "distractions".
Was on phone trying to straighten out my credit card which this month had a few charges I did not make or authorize.........& an ambulance pulled up next door........I kept looking out window, walked away for 2 minutes, returned and it was gone. Of course no one of the close neighbors saw anything......(tho some were at work)

Oh, yeah, they cancelled that credit card, are sending me a new one.......yayyyy........and I don't think I will be paying anything online anymore. This has been exhausting.....in fact the day was such.....too much for one day
